okay maybe i don't hate it but it is such a pain. cut it out, smooth out any imperfections, wash it, dry it, mask it up, paint it. geez! and if you makea mistake it's much harder to hide than a hard shell. anyway here is my latest re-re. didn't put on all the stripes too much work! i like the re-re hoppers stickers which are precut, why can't they all be this way? painted the letters on the rear tires but that is a pain because they are smaller than the fronts. also didn't know that there are stickers for the roll cage so i painted it black and than realized i could have saved myself some work! oh well i think the black looks good against the blue.whew! okay i feel better now that i got that all out.

The good news is they added the overspray film to the new lexan bodies, which is a nice timesaver from the older lexan shells. I'm working on a Fox right now which is the first full masked shell I've painted. It's a lot more work, but it will be worth it in the end.

I still agree though. I much prefer working on hard shell bodies than Lexan. Here is my first lexan body which is also a re-re Hornet:

Loving the gold bits on that Hornet. Very Bling but very nice!

Thanks for your compliments. Like every club member, I am having a great time working on these cars. After the Fox is complete, I will be working on a Frog with several period hop-ups. That means another Lexan body, but at least it has the overspray film ;)

Slither302 - Is your Hornet going to be a runner or a Shelf Queen? You should post it in your showroom, the pictures turned out nice (I never tried painting the tire lettering yet, it looks pretty cool).

Wandy - Looking forward to your Hornet build. Just saw your NIB kit.

Sgt.Barnes - You have a heck of a collection! I'm still hoping to own an SRB one of these days. I'll need to save some dough first. They aren't getting any cheaper.

thanks for comments. probally going to run it a bit sice i never had one before. plus i can run it with my daughters re-re hopper(look in kids and cars thread).your hornet looks great, love the fox type gold wheels and the side bars. i'm not really sold on the gold fogs; might paint the back half black and see if that does it. i love tires that you can paint the letters, gives it a finishing touch. stock back tires on hornet/frog are a pain to paint but a toothpick gets it done. and i must be a glutton for punishment as i also have a frog waiting for paint!

Slither302,

Sounds like fun to run one. I'm almost considering getting a second one so I can have one to drive. The downside to one of a kind hop-up parts on your car is that you really can't run it without risking damage to the parts. The upside is that you get to preserve not only a vintage car, but several vintage parts that are mostly gone.

I remember your kids and cars post. I think I added a picture of my GrassHopper driver. The GH is still my favorite of them all. Nice change going with the green for the body. I bet your daughter get's a kick out of driving it around.

I think you sold me on painting the tire lettering - now I just have to decide what tires to paint for what car?? And I have to buy a box of toothpicks [:D]

I think you are right about the gold fogs. Painting the back black sounds like it will do the trick.

Look forward to seeing your Frog when its done.

Lexan is heaps easier to make a nice finish than on a hardbody.  Slither, I think you did a good job on your hornet.  I really like the colors used in the hornet decals.  It allows you to devaite from the standard black and still end up with a cool paint job.

thanks shodog, coming from u that's a great compliment! your showroom is awesome! i guess your right about finish. the lexan already has a nice shiny outercoat underneath the protective film so u don't have to worry about clears etc. still like the hard bodies the best as far as realism etc. speaking of the film i was in such a rush i forgot to peel it off my wing! oh well, i'll run it as is for now and redo the wing with new decals in the future.

okay painted back half of fogs black, i think that works.

Slither302,

You were right, adding the black to the back of the fogs is a big improvement. Shodog's Hornet is also an excellent example of how deviating from the norm can be a "good" thing.
