I already spent a thread on making headlights last year, but I never came to it to design the lights. My mother in law made me re-think this issue, last time she was here.

When I want to make the headlights in my Peugeot 406 http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...730&id=5798 I want them to look good. I've seen the headlights in my LHS but it does not do the trick I want. I have left the entire headlight blank without paint and I want to make a real lighthead set to put behind the body. I was thinking of using clay to make the form (in my other 406 body) by pressing it into place. When the clay is hard, I want to wrap it with glassfibre and make the housing for the frontlight.

Has anyone experience with this??

here's my way: clay is ok for sample forming, but i'd make my cast out of molten metal for both front and back sides of the housing.

chroming the metal ast is optional to ensure super smooth surface if using PC or lexan.

Otherwise just make sure you applied a thin coat of wax before laying down the fibre. failure to do so will bond the housing to the cast when you throw resin on it.

The later procedure might necessiate a lot of finishing, depending on your cast making skill.

I'd suggest making the die housing out of sheets of styrene instead. easier to measure, easier to flip measurements when doing the other side's.
