If anyone is interested in racing a Tamiya M chassis (limited variants) and can get to Leighton Buzzard on a Tuesday evening please read the following

 <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Tamiya “M†Chassis Race Series

A proposal for a new controlled low cost, high fun, race series at Leighton Off Road Model Car Club for beginners and seasoned racers alike

Car Specification

·   Open to Tamiya FWD M Series chassis variants – M-01, M-03 and M-03M

·   Limited Hop Up option’s – 53348 Bearing Set, 50473 Servo Saver and 50746 CV Plastic Oil Filled Damper set

·   Standard 540 Silver Can Motors

·   Tamiya 60D Radial tyres with Standard Inserts

·   Original Kit Wheel size only

·   Any Tamiya Bodyshell as sold with M Series chassis i.e Mini, Suzuki Swift

·   Tamiya TEU-101BK* (Kit) ESC or similar*, or kit Mechanical Speed Controller

·   Stick pack up to 3000mah

·   Minimum weight 1250 grammes excluding transponder

·   5.0mm minimum ride height

Although radio gear remains completely open, in “the spirit of the seriesâ€, we would like to suggest a lower end servo. Having a servo or ESC costing more than the car defeats the object of a low cost race series.

Race Series

Running in conjunction with the stock touring car series,  8 from 10 rounds, the proposed format would be as follows:

·   2 Qualifying Heats per round and up to 8 cars per heat.

·   In line, same time start. Ie All cars lined against track marker and start on buzzer

·   1 Final with a grid start based on best qualifying round

·   Championship Trophy to be presented to the winner, and held for the following series.

Full details of the venue can be found at www.lormcc.co.uk

We will operate the series seperately to our normal 27t stock Touring cars, but on the same track layout each week. ALL racers, new or experienced will be made more than welcome. The new series is designed to give close racing, without breaking the bank, and most importantly, to have some FUN.

I can be contacted via this forum, via the lormcc contacts page, or, via e-mail.

LORMCC will run a series for any spec car, as long as a minimum of 5 cars enter. I'll wager other, if not most, club's would do similar. Ask!

I am aware of a discussion starting regarding something similar in Nottingham.

As a footnote, after a request from a competitor, we have opened up the battery capacity to 3000mah. These packs are now available from Selection's RC for the race meeting at only a fiver!!!!!

Cheers

Sorry to Hijack your thread but My local club in Swindon, Wiltshire are planning to race M-Chassis indoors on Carpet for the Winter season (starts on sunday 1st October). Basically the rules are the same as your, but the differenace is, Silver can and Sport tuned motors only, any battery. I will be submitting the rules to my clubs website in the near future.

My club at Newark have been running  Mini races for quite a few months now, it's a controlled class but restrictions are no where near as strict, basically any Tamiya MINI can be raced with any hop-up you want but the motor can only be either stock silver can or Tamiya Sport Tuned, that's it!!

We have thought long and hard about the car regulation's. We want the series to be affordable for all, simple to understand for any newcomers, and as close racing as possible. The controls we are to run should ensure we achieve our aim. As the club already has a very healthy Touring car class, running to BRCA (ish) regulations, which obviously allows racers to "improve" there car's as much as their budget's allow, a heavily restricted race series will allow driver skill to dominate the results more than the latest high tuned stock motor, high capacity cells and multi functional ESC. It should also take away some of the seriousness, and add an huge slice of fun.

Nice to see that other club's are already running the Mini's. What sort of entry numbers do you get? and do people run in other class's on the day as well?

Some changes to the permtted specification. We have now included some hop ups to help with basic chassis tuning.

Kev, been watching your website, is you series happening? A few of us would be interested in coming down one Sunday for a play

Straightspeed: I'm sure kev won't mind me answering for him. Yes the series is happening, and we could always do with a few more minis. The grip on the new carpet is excellent, standard kit tires are perfect. the first meeting was yesterday and the racing was very close. the qualifying was neck and neck between kevin and myself, with others close behind, and I took tq in the last round. in the final however, i had a bit of an accident in which my antenna was pulled out, and i missed out on the win. (which surely would have been mine, eh kev?)

anyway, you should definitely come along and join in, its really good fun, beats touring cars any day IMO.

Sound's just what we're after. Close racing and not to serious. We'll keep our eye on the dates and see if we can get some racers from Leighton Buzzard to join us. There's already three of us up for it. I'll need to check on kit specs, hop ups etc, but Kev thought they would be similar.

We're also looking at something that a club in Nottingham are discussing. Enter a team, or teams, get given (not sure how this bit works) a new M03 Mini Cooper kit, and when the race starts, your team have to build the kit, and then run it in an endurance race............................ different, and very scary. They've done it before and it was apparently great fun.

Anyone from your way interested?

We relaxed the rules slightly as we found out a lot of the Hopups just made the car more reliable, and a lot of members already had some mods on their cars.

My M03L has only Ballraces, Ball Diff and a Sport tuned motor in it so it's not heavily modified (I was also using 1400 batteries). I do find that the kit shocks do work good, indoors on Carpet and one of the members raced an out of the box M03M Suzuki Shift and he was only a lap behind.

I be very interested in the Endurance which including the building – I guess the body is pre-painted before the meeting?… I guess us Swindonians could come up with a Team

Yeah that sounds like fun. would it have to be a brand new kit or just a disassembled one?

the specs of the cars we race (although hopups are allowed) are pretty standard, as they dont tend to make much difference in performance. my car is similar in spec to kevs, standard apart from bb's, sport tuned motor, ball diff, and i also have aluminium steering knuckles for added strength. so even if your car is completely standard, you wont be at a major disadvantage.

I'll keep you posted on the endurance thing - out of my control - but I believe it's a brand new kit, and like you, I assume the shell is pre-painted. I'm already learning that the spec's do not make a vast ammount of difference. The only real difference in performance would be from the motors, but I'm sure we can procure some of those. I'll run it past a few other guys and see what they say. Do you run the Mini's each week? and, could our lot double enter a run TC's as well?

We do race the M-Chassis Every week

There's nothing stopping you racing in 2 classes but i've tried it at club meetings in the past and just it's too hectic- racing, Marshalling, racing then Marshelling again. We had 6 heats per round last Sunday (1x M-Chassis, 4 x Tourers and 1 x 1/12)

I guess you guys couldn't make it over to swindon for round 1 of the microtech championship yesterday. Its a shame, cos it was a good day of racing, and there would have been plenty of time between rounds for you guys to do touring cars as well as minis.

Hi Rich, I have a newsletter going out to all LORMCC Mini racers at this weeks meeting, inviting them to Swindon. Not sure what reaction I will get. Alot of our racers compete at DMS on Sundays and are committed to that championship. I'll post the outcome later this week.
