You can use for Tamiya acrylics (X-paints in round glasses) either Tamiya thinner, water, alcohol or clear window cleaner, the last is said to be the best!

Sorry but I have to disagree!!

Having built many 1/24th static models I have tried all the above options to thin Tamiya acrylics and by far the best is Tamiyas own acrylic thinners

Acrylic paint is just acrylic paint?  Would it be possible to go to your local hardware store not hobby store and buy a Litre / pint / quart of paint tinner and knock yourself out and save a bundle?

I just think some of the stuff used by hobbist can be purchased from hardware store or auto shops or electronic shops at a fraction of what you would pay from a hobby store.

I use generic off the shelf laquer thinner and the acrylic thinner from Tamiya. I agree with the aformentioned tamiya thinner working the best, however  laquer thinner works quite well. Just play with the ratio of thinner to paint before going to battle. Your mileage may vary, Good luck :)

Cheers! I tried water the other day but failed miserably probably because I used too much of it! If only i could get tamiya spray cans, No guess work needed at all!  I have a load of automotive thinners! I suppose i'll just experiment with them!

I have used car screen wash as a thinner it was recommended
in the military model magazines I read. I have tried and it works and it’s a badword
of a lot cheaper than the Tamiya thinner. I use Halfords ready mixed, give it a
go if you don’t like it you can stick in the screen wash bottle on your car.
