Fancy some new design SRB lexan bodies?

Recommended Posts

I have rounded off the arches now and feel it is at a satisfactory stage to sell as a street rod. Advertising it on Ebay today. The first 3 Tamiyaclub members to email will be sent a free ABS body ( mention this offer ! ) Well underway with the next stage.

Hey Keith,

Just thought i'd show you what i did with one of your Beetle shells BEFORE the Baja one, this would have saved me alot of time making the arches, but there you go :(

I have a question, what about a clear lexan "glass" for the jugg-highlift bodies?

I have a question, what about a clear lexan "glass" for the jugg-highlift bodies?

forget the glass! how about the whole shell sos we dont have to worry about rolling them and sos we can see how far these things will go offroad before we start damadging the body. cos weed be scared to scratch the beautiful hard body. (well i would anyway):(

Hi, its great that I can get all this direct feedback. I will produce whatever you guys want but it has to be viable commercially as this is my only income. If anyone has bodies that need copying I can and will do them and without damaging the originals. The problem is I already have too many projects in line and keeping people waiting. This is where I have to be careful as I don't want to have unhappy customers. I can give progress reports on projects which at least puts peoples minds at rest. Please keep requesting as this will influence the next project to chose.

Thanks,

Keith

Personaly i think an F150 ranger / Blackfoot body would be a good investment as the originals are going for sky high prices and it covers two models at the same time and what with people fitting blackfoot bodys to xc's and various other tamiyas if you made it in abs it should sell well

Going with Big wheels on this one, blackfoot/ranger body would be very popular (put me down for 3 now!). Definately could be a solid little earner in the "body detail bits" market at the moment  as well. Glass, lenses (particularly if they are clear rather than tinted) mirrors etc particularly with so many people modifying and only needing head lights or only needing windows etc

 Just my bit

You do know Parma have made a lexan Blackfoot shell for years?

http://www.shopatron.com/product/product_id=PAR10244/137.0

Most

people are using Tamiya Blackfoot shells because they are injection

moulded styrene, with a lot more detail than vac formed shells.

Hi chaps.

Very tempted to do this body but not sure I can offer anything the Parma one doesn't. It would be cheaper and easier to get but not sure it warrants the work if the Parma is OK. I could do ABS as suggested but it would not be as sharp as the moulded one. Open to ideas.

Keith

Hi Keith - any thoughts on reproing some of the old Kyosho RS200 or Metro 6R4 bodyshells?

Also, would it be possible to repro the Wild One shell? I would have thought it would be quite simple as it's not a complicated shell by any means and I'm sure you get stacks of buyers as the originals seem to fall apart!

I bought one that I am pretty sure was a repro (Wild One) off ebay a few months back. I was very good quality from a seller whose name had something to do with Finnish rally drivers I think. With delivery it was quite cheap, less than 15 quid I think.

Keith - do you have any plans to put that m-chassis Mk1 VW Golf that Daz has in his showroom into production? I would pre-order a few of those, and there was a lot of interest from the Mk1 Golf OC when I mentioned it on the forums before so i think you would get a fair few sales of that one right off the bat.

I'd also be interested in a 6R4 shell although probably something more scale looking than the old buggy based ones others are mentioning. I think there would be a lot of demand for almost any of the well known rally car shells from the 70's and 80's. What about a version of the Mk2 Escort with flared rally arches? Seems like a fairly simple boxy shape too, and would probably sit nicely on the RWD M-04 Tamiya chassis used for the Alfa Guilia and the Mazda Eunos.

Cheers,

Chris

ChrisB has some cracking ideas, Mk1 Golf for the M01 and M03 chassis' ( FWD ) and a MK2 Escort Mexico ( Not that dodgey pointy RS2000 :) ) Metro 6R4, Renalut 5 Turbo, and anything else from that era, to fit on a M04 Chassis :D

Keith, glad you liked my Scorcher.

Thanks Keith - the Mk1 Golf would be great [:)].

@ MikeT - there was a discussion elsewhere on this, but the Mk1 Golf shell would have to be based on the M-01 as the bonnet line is so low - no way you would get an M-03 under there and it still look scale unfortunately.

Its worth thinking about other cars for the M-04 chassis though - how about an Opel Ascona rally car - you might get some interest from people with the Tamiya originals too looking for runner shells. I'd love to see a Lancia Fulvia HF coupe on an M-04 to go with my Alfa Guilia, but that is probably a bit specialist [;)]

M01 body on a M03 chassis:

http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=57736

I think the tires are the only issue -- The M03 has deeper wheel wells to accommodate the taller tires.  Although the servo mount area comes clear up to the belt-line, the body does not sit any higher than the M01.

@ Keith-

I hate to say it, but I think the replacement glass is the real money maker here; I can't imagine it would take much effort to make a nice repro of any of the above mentioned, (not much detail in windows!) and LOTS of us need to replace our old tinted, cracked, or missing originals.  Same goes for the Scorcher nose cones - I willing to bet you could sell zillions of these!

One that could go a Long way would be a 2 door Range Rover to fit an XC chasis,Now that i'd be all over like a rash!

I think the M03 issue isn't the height of the Mini body, but the height of the stuff underneath it.

Have a look at the Golf shell pic, on the M02 chassis the 'hood' of the Golf shell rests on the chassis, leaving it 'nose-high'

How the Mini shell sits on the chassis is very very irrelevant [;)]

Yes, I see now..[:$] oops!

I was having a look at my M03 and noticed that there was at least 10-15mm between the shell and the servo stay, so I thought it might be close enough to allow for the golf.  Shame that it won't -- why on earth did they put the servo over the the motor anyhow?

The parma blackfoot body has 3 big problems

1) its exspensive compaired to alot of lexan bodys (i dont want to pay for a name)

2) its hard to get hold of in the uk if you dont want to import it or want to pay for it with paypal

3) its lexan not ABS

an abs version of the f150 body would be great for runners as you could fit a driver and it could easily be modified it wouldnt need all the little details like the side badges etc as there usualy well worn off the originals and it would make a very nice body to use for street convertions etc
