DeeMiller 1 Posted October 24, 2006 Are you gonna use stock chassie or are you gonna modify that to????Paal. Thx for the compliment, glad you like it.[] The chassis is pretty standard, wider BF Goodrich tires (softer than Hummer's), ground clearance is raised 5mm and I added two ball diffs (Manta Ray) and a Sport Tuned motor. I'll stick to the standard main drive shaft as it twists better than the Hop-Up drive shaft (stainless steel?). Universal joints for the main drive shaft may be an option... Grtz Dee. DeeMiller 1 Posted October 25, 2006 Today the LEDs have arrived. I'm quite pleased how bright they are. I changed the plan of the circuit because these LEDs require 3,6V... So with the 2V red and yellow LEDs I made a new circuit design:http://home.tiscali.nl/millertime/Images/H.../HummerLED2.doc Here are the latest pics: Nice brightness (800mcd, 120 deg. same brightness as 13.000mcd normal LEDs). I also worked on the mirrors, a drybrush job. I use a soft big brush and light grey paint. Put very little paint on the brush and wipe it off as much as possible until it's almost dry. Gently rub it over the workpiece and the paint will highlight the edges. I also added mirrors by adhesive alu. Tomorrow I'll work on the lights because I had to fill the gaps for the LEDs (these one are shorter) with glue and it has to dry over night. Grtz Dee. Guest joelvardy Posted October 25, 2006 nice bright LED's there mate can't wait for the final result. have we got a time scale (to the nearest year)
DeeMiller 1 Posted October 25, 2006 have we got a time scale (to the nearest year) Nope...sorry. "Finished" is a relative conception here I guess... I've seen some nice pics of customized chassis so I'm already thinking of new levels... Grtz Dee.

DeeMiller 1 Posted October 26, 2006 I made a start with the casting. For now I use seam cement (is that good english?) because I ran out of gypsum. If that doesn't work I'll buy some gypsum or polyester resin but I don't know if the plastic can stand the heat (from the hardening proces). If the mold is ready, I want to use silicone for the driver. Ok, here we go: The "equipment"... First I'll try the torso, I rubbed it in with vaseline so it won't stick to the mold (I hope...). Put the cement in my "vacuum chamber" to get all air bubbles out. Yes, you noticed correctly, it's an old vacuum cleaner with a Plexiglas lid... The wooden box is screwed together so I can open it easily when the upper and lower mold is ready. Let's see what happens...(prepare for some good old ODT...[]). Grtz Dee. MikeT 0 Posted October 26, 2006 Brave man Dee, i'd've took pics, and tried it first, and if it didn't work, not release the pics Looks brilliant so far though fella, i think the least you could do is a few chassis mods Mike
DeeMiller 1 Posted October 26, 2006 Brave man Dee, i'd've took pics, and tried it first, and if it didn't work, not release the pics Yeah, you're right.[] What's the use of showing things that don't work? I'll take your advice and post the pics when I got it all worked out... I've been testing a few things here so on the casting part: updates asap! Grtz Dee. DeeMiller 1 Posted October 27, 2006 The start of making a simple interior: Simple because through the dark windows you won't see that much of the interior. The dashboard will have some dails (with back light) though. I also will add a roll cage behind the drivers. Have a nice weekend gents! Grtz Dee
DeeMiller 1 Posted October 27, 2006 To show people what NOT to do! Stunning work so far Dee, keep it up. Thx, but I don't want to spend too much time on that...(there are plenty ways to do it wrong, only a few to do it right...lol![]) I think the best way to mould the drivers is to make molds of liquid latex (common technic in modelling, just ordered 500ml). After that you can use polyester to cast the figures, I'll skip the idea of silicon drivers... Grtz Dee.
DeeMiller 1 Posted October 29, 2006 Update: The headlight, first try. Hmm, not happy about the looks...[:S] Autumn starts... Headlights start falling off the trees... ... No, I haven't lost it... Watch: Filler. Chrome paint. 934 lenses glued to Acrylic glas (1mm). Assembled with CA-glue and painted black. Much better![<)] Grtz Dee.

DeeMiller 1 Posted November 3, 2006 Making the GPS displays: Glued the small yellow LEDs to some acrylic glas. My LES hadn't white LEDs in this size so I used yellow ones.[:S] I used adhesive tape so there will be a good spreading of the light inside. Printed some decals and glued them onto the displays with some matt laquer. It isn't that bright in real but my camera doesn't perform very well in the dark. Making the dashboard dails: First off, a Plexiglas box. Painted white to reflect the light inside. I also changed the position of the LED, now only one and the light is spread better . I used the above stickers to highlight the dails properly. Note I have painted the dails with clear high gloss laquer to simulate glas. The wheel isn't finished yet as it has to be cut off a bit to fit into the interiour. It's an old broken Cheetah steering wheel. The steering rod is an M4 bolt with a washer. Looks ok. The roofrack is finished. The brand "Surco". Updates asap because I have recieved the optical wire for the marker lights. It's quite flexible and looks quite promising (promise[])! DeeMiller 1 Posted November 4, 2006 Working with optical wire: The collector is made of 5mm Plexiglas where the LED is glued in. The optical fibre is 1mm. Testing with 1m cable... Works ok.[<)] Tomorrow I'll connect them to the body. Have a nice weekend gents! Grtz Dee.
