Well, just goes to show not every new product or feature is a gimmick [:'(]

There's a few D-SLRs now with a cleaner for the sensor, and there was me thinking I didn't need one

The pic below was taken at sunrise on hols, one day last week - it's one of about 40!

It's been resized to fit, but below is is a crop from the top left corner

Note the numerous bits of dust on the sensor [:(]

Trouble is, I've never noticed it before, as most of the pics I take are either of my cars, or bugs, neither of which generally have vast amounts of pretty coloured background.

The real bummer is that because the dust is on the sensor, you don't see it until you view the pics on a big screen [:(]

Another crop

Doing a bit of testing tonite, the dust is most noticeable at smaller apertures

F8 upwards

And here's a bug

So anyway, it's a real issue for a change - anyone used anything that works well for removing the dust?

cant you just unscrew the lens and blast the sensor with some compressed air from an airbrush or something. i have a similar problem with my camera but its nota dslr so i cant remove the lens. :)

Probably not the best idea, I'm looking to remove the dust as opposed to blow it around possibly inside the body.

There's a few 'wipe' products about, just wondered if anyone'd tried them yet?

I wonder if you could use one of those little keyboard vacuum cleaners - it would suck the dust out, and should be fairly gentle? The other thing that I use for removal of dust from delicate areas is like a feather duster with loads of plastic fibres; the brush charges itself up with static and picks up dust a treat - gentle, but I don't know if it would be a good idea to have a static electric charge near the electronics inside a camera... (I've used it on various electronic stuff without ill effect but you never know how well the kit has been protected against static discharge)

I'd try the mini-vac, with some sort of lint free cloth attached to the nozzle so it doesn't do any damage.

Or perhaps it would be worth a trip to a camera shop; they might have special equipment designed to get the dust off without damaging the sensor, as most of them use digital cameras now they ought to have some quality cleaning kit.

I use a Kodak camera cleaning kit, works great, but i also can't remove my lens ;)

About 10 euro's for the set.

(soft brush, and some kind of tissue's comming with it), as mentioned,

might be worth to ask the shopkeeper for a specialised digital cam kit ?
