hi all,

was just looking at bao bao's brilliant XC lineup, and saw that they all had tailights, but on the pajero, he used the lighting kit (2 bulbs and wiring harness) If you want brakelights you normally have to buy the expensive kit (£37) but after observing the light kit I noticed that the bulbs go dim when you accelerate, but glow brightly when the motor stops running. This would create a brake light effect imho, Has anyone else tried this? If anyone has, ****, as I thought I had a great idea! [:D] (it doesnt happen a lot, but when it does...)

For all I know, tamiya probably use this idea for hte brake light kit, and just added a PCB with a battery (just kidding, Im sure the complete brakelight kit is worth it.)

bye for now,

James

thats exactly how tamiyas brake light kit works[:D]

the battery is needed to keep the lights on whilst the speed control is in neutral, without it the brake lights wouldnt stay lit when the car stops.

i dont think its worth £37.

i got my tamiya set of ebay for £20, after waiting for one to come up on there for about 5 months!

it does look cool though, and comes with 4 red leds and parts to fit it to all sorts of cars and trucks.

Hi again,

Would you say then that the brake light kit is worth it if I found one for around £20?

Ive spent the day tooling around with an old acoms servo (RIP servo) and made my own turn signals, its really easy, though you do have to mess around internally, not to much though. Anyone want to know how to acheive the turn signals, drop me a mail,

bye for now,

p.s, does the battery in the brake light set recharge itself?

i would say £20 was a good price for my brake light set, it was new in the box so open used ones are only worth about £10 to £15 max.

the set works by getting power from the motor wires. the pc bord opperates the brake light action by dimming the leds when the motor is recieving power, the more power to the motor the more dim they go (they practicly go out)

once the power is cut to the motor (when the throttle is in neutral) the leds light up, they get there power from the battery on the pc board. the battery on the pc bord is charged up by the power it gets from the motor wires (its wired in parallel to the motor) and keeps the brake lights lit up for about 10 seconds, then they go out. as soon as you put the car back up to speed the battery on the pcb is charged ready for the next time the power is cut to the motor.

so the whole system draws its power from the motor wires and knows when to light on and off by using the motor wires - making it simple to install on just about anything with a motor and speed control!
