firstly just bought a subaru impreza tl01 (58273) have bought some hopups and wanted to fit larger wheels to enable it to go true off roading, was thinking baja champ or similar.  can anyone shed any light on what is different between my new ebay find and the newer (49352) subaru impreza wrc 2004 tl-01ra, which apears to have baja style wheels and tyres. Also love to see driver and co-driver figures in these rally cars but have no idea where i could purchase a set or two.  any advice or help would be greatful.

the difference with the tl-01 and the tl-01ra is that the second ra one has longer wishbones on it and therefore would be better at off-roading

you could use baja wheels and tires but would probably need to put in the smallest pinion you can it to compensate

but I would wait until Wrc action or someone with a baja answers to your post

The TL01RA chassis is an on road chassis that uses the long span arm

suspension set. This suspension keeps the car the same width, but the

longer wishbones give better handling over the standard suspension.

In

the case of the 49352 Impreza Tamiya have just added a set of their

star dish buggy wheels to give a greater ground clearance. Still not as

capable as a baja champ as it is still as narrow as your impreza but

with a higher centre of gravity.

The interior set will be a vintage item and harder to find - look at ebay sellers like jr-rc and vintageavante for the item - tho it will be around £15 for a complete inset of a driver and co-driver.

As for the TL01LA it is fundamentally a TL01 with longer arms, the large wheels i think arent the right scale and will make the centre of gravity very high. As for the TL01 chassis for rally the gear ratios aren't ideal with a max of about 7.5:1 as opposed to a more ideal 9:1 for rally and and this will be compounded by the large wheels. What I would advise is either to modify ure exisitng system like this http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...665&id=3382 or to go for a TB01 chassis that you can get nib for around £70 and will be ideal with a tub chassis, cover for the electrics and also figures included in the kit as standard. http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...07&sid=8468 Eventually you may end up with one like this one in my showroom.
