Well after my extensive restoration, I finally drove my first Sand Scorcher!! Initially I had real problems with interference, which I worked out to be becuase of running the receiver wire between my lovely Twinset alloy chassis and the bottom of the radio box. Since re-routing this out of the side of the box and having some decent length to run up the aerial, it seems to be 10 times better. Man was I nervous the first time- I ran without the body and it would jam open the throttle (using the 101bk) and I had a few moments :)

Now she's running right I have to say it is great fun. It may have the turning circle of a 70,000 ton oil tanker, and less that blinding acceleration, but once she's up to speed it seems pretty fast! I love the sound it makes, it really adds to the fact that you're driving something special and very old!

If I reverse and then bang open the throttle it will pull wheelies too! Now I have it sussed, I am sealing the reciver box to the radio box and putting things where they should.

Just thought I'd share, I don't think driving any of my cars has given me 'that' feeling.. Awesome!!!

It's very exciting isn't it!  My Scorcher had one very quick test run - it isn't finished yet but was in a state where I could run it.  It was great fun and looked fantastic even if it didn't have a body on!

I agree about the noise, the gearbox sound is beatiful [:D]

It's a wonderful thing, isn't it? Once you wrap your head around the whole no-diff thing and adjust your driving style a bit, you can actually make it go where you want. I like the weight of the SRB's, makes them feel more stable. Go ahead and put the body on, it won't flip. I can only imagine what it was like having 6 of these on the track at the same time [H]

Modern buggies may run rings around them, but the SRB's are still the best buggies ever!

Ouch that must have been upsetting!!! Running the 70t if I remember correctly Pete..

Is there any point getting the exhaust and mirrors for running- I would just be paranoid about wrecking them I reckon....

Also need to tie up one of the front suspension arms as it popped out and also the half shaft came loose.....

Im Using the 65 tooth spur gear and my scorcher accelerates like mad

and the mirrors are one thing im leaving off the list of parts for mine as they will prob go missing within the first 10 minutes

as for the exhaust you could always go for a huffmeister metal one

I had a similar first outing with my latest rebuilt Scorcher also using a 101bk . The ariel wire was too short it went out of control ,hit a plant pot and cracked the nose cone :(  A bit of surgery and all is sorted now .I am running one of Volksrods old shells on it and i have made a box art front bumper for it.I had a Scorcher many years ago and i loved the way it would do 180's ( oh the abuse of it !! ) I wouldn't dare do it now .SRB's rule !!.I love them so much that i now have the whole range and a few doubles - sweet dreams  :)
