touareg tuning

just ordered myself a touareg as one of my xmas prezzies, firstly want to know if the parts to lock the diffs are in the kit or is there a upgrade or sim i can buy, not wanting to mad at first, just bought a full ballrace kit for it and just woundered what upgrades my fellow members could suggest.

Hi, nice xmas present! The lock diff parts are in the kit so that's no problem. Ballrace is the first option you should go for, so that was very clever. The  next thing could be a lathe / or other low speed-high torque motor if your planning to do some climbing/trialing. Further there is nothing really you need or you have to go for some serious modding, like changing suspension for more ground clearence. One thing I really like for my XC is a steering mod, but that is only if your driving in lots of sand and mud.

You get one set of diff locks in the kit. You can order another set for the front diff. which is G Parts number 9005422 for about £8.  My son and I did this to ours and they are great with both diffs locked. See this thread for some more info on what the other guys think.

We have also fitted 55 turn lathe motors which give a lot more torque. They now drive at a really scale speed with less top speed thus avoiding the all too easy rollover these cars have and can climb up almost anything. 

Also gone is the standard front bumper which reduces approach angle too much. This has been replaced by a home made steel bumper/skid plate which also helps a lot.

I don't know how you will be able to wait till Christmas to build it. I'm going to do the same with the new High Lift but I will have to lock it in a friends garage to keep me away from it.

According to the manual the parts for the rear diff lock are in the kit - parts G5.

You can find the manual for download on the Tamiya home site.

stock with rubber shielded ball bearings, the rear diff locked a home made sump gaurd preferibly of stainless steel and you'll be fine.

they run great anywhere espically on the beach - tho I would advise you make an electrics box like the one on my touareg http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...84&sid=8468 as seen here.

As other said for trialing/crawling in order of decreasing importance are ball bearings, locked diffs, truck or lathe motor, steering modification, hi torque servo and suspension modifications.

well i dont know much about xc crawlers but my race touareg has open diffs a 17 double motor in it and is fully ballraced. on a decent battery (3700+) it goes like stink
