I tried to order a jugg 2 body shell in to seperate orders, but tower ended up sending it all in one package. I got hit a total of £20 approx from customs for just the shell.

Also, a couple of months ago i got a NIB 959 from homg kong, that cost me £94 in in VAT and customs charges... [:(]

I'm also wondering what the customs' policy is with regards to importing stuff from Hong Kong. Neo's story got me worried a bit as I was considering ordering one or two kits from a Hong Kong based TC member. Can anyone shed some light (by experience) on the amount one can get charged when ordering from Hong kong for delivery to Europe?

Siv - yes you probably will get had for customs if you order through Tower, I would say there is a 99.99999% chance of having to pay, purely because they declare true value on their parcels (a lot of eastern sellers don't [:D]).

They also wrap their parcels using "Tower" tape, and put stickers on like "this is a Tower Hobbies priority shipment" which doesn't help.

For exact figures, you need to speak to customs and excise, as you will pay import duty, specific to the product (Cars have a different code to planes for instance), then you pay VAT, then you pay a post office customs clearance fee too.

It usually ends up cheaper than a UK purchase, but not by a lot.

I have also found that if you get hit for duty depends on the adress as well. I,ve had items from US and HK to my home address with no duty to pay but as soon as its a buisness address I get caught.

Not totally correct - i have all my stuff sent too work these days (parcelfarce) and i got hit once so far!! doesnt matter...

Rule of thumb... US - Get Hit, HK 90% chance you wont [;)]

Just thought I'd remind members about the UK Ebay seller "Coffindodgers" that lists items that mostly come from HK but is not mentioned in the listing...

If you're unlucky you'll be stung for import duties AND VAT. The first thing you'll know about it is Mr Postman asking for more £££'s to get your stuff..Check with the seller BEFORE buying [:D]
