A 2006 Baja Bug, ie: a car that is to the Sand Scorcher what the Hi-Lift is to the Bruiser.Bashers that are built and designed to appeal as much as models as they are RC vehicles, something that used to be Tamiya speciality.

what i used to like about tamiya was the look of the cars, sand scorcher, f150 and holiday buggy which i used to own when i around 15, long time ago i know, but most of the modern cars look alike mainly because alot use the same chassis type, what ever happened to individuality. I think the hi-lift is a welcome step in the right direction to making tamiya what it once was to me. A modern sand scorcher would be great a the originals are really expensive to buy and to keep running.

Easy!

Trucks =>  New Daf CF or XF eurotruck, or the latest Volvo FH12 , maybe a FM12 ??

Tanks => M1A1 Abrahams or a MLRS or panzerhouwitzer 2000

Offroad => Bring back the wrangler !  (on the F350 chassis?)

Re release:

Tank, a full option Flakpanzer Gepard

Next Tank is the German Panther, based on one of the 2 models available at Aberdeen.

I would like to see a modern super truck (Volvo or Mercedes would be excellent.)

in case you dont know - if you dont ill be super shocked but anyway... - FORD ESCORT MK II PAINTED LIKE EUGENE FERRY'S RALLY CAR (the blue one with yellow flames (i think theyre flames anyway)

it MUST BE 2WD!!!!, wishbone front and live axle super soft leaf spring rear and maybee a lexan body with ABS trims like the grille and wing mirrors etc

(schnitzer bmws had this and so did the lancia delta hf integrale)

or just a sraight lexan/hard body

They aren't flames, it's a copy of the Michelin Pilot paintscheme from Malcolm Wilson's British Championship winning Escort Cosworth. It wasn't exactly world famous and Tamiya made a model of that, but haven't made a model of the World Championship winning Mk2 Escort RS1800 of Ari Vatanen (then again, it was sponsored by Rothmans, which would be right out for a model these days - 'Racing' wouldn't look right).

On a pedantic note, I'm pretty sure the Escorts in that video would have had the rear suspension changed from leaves to coilover shocks, like the works cars had (then again, for ultimate realism a model would have to have Macpherson strut front supension rather than wishbones....[;)]).

Personally, I would like to see tamiya make a Ford RS200 shell, but that's never going to happen. In similar fantasy-land Roger Clark's Mk1 Escort would be nice, or a nice Land Rover on the high-lift chassis (the 4-link parts are there in the kit for it).

This is confirmed by the SoCal Tanker Club members who spoke directly

with Mr.Tamiya back at Tamiyacon. He had asked the members of the club

to keep it secret for 6 months. The deadline is now past so they are

free to speak about it. There are 2 panthers on display at Aberdeen US

Army ordinance museum in Maryland.

I know,

Tamiya can create a new Rear wheel drive chassis, available in two styles (rally or tarmac) and with M chassis style extenders and create a whole series of bodies, Mk1 Escort, Mk2 Escort, Cologne Capri, BMW 2002, (Honda S800!, Alfa Giulia!), Lancia Stratos, Ford Anglia, Datsun/Nissan 1600SSS, Mazda RX3, the list of classic And important race/rally cars goes on - give it a new kit number sequence, and sell the body/wheel combo's to change the look  Hee Hee Hee  :)

It might not be a kit release but I would definately want Tamiya's next release to be the MFU for the Hi-Lift[Y]

New releases: some good, realistic-looking buggies.  Tamiya's

recent buggies have all been about wierd sci-fi styling and futuristic

curves.  The Baja Champ is one of the few current models that

actually looks like a real car.

I'd like to see more

scale-looking trucks - I guess the hi-lift chassis will be released

with a new shell and possibly different suspension configurations.

I'd

also like some scale-looking rally cars - it's possible that a modified

Hi-Lift chassis with lots of metal and scale-effect parts could be used

to replicate a MkII Escort chassis, although I doubt we'll get many

classic cars released under Tamiya (especially not Euro Fords).

Re-release: Nissan King Cab.  Just 'cos I had one as a kid,

and I loved it, and can't afford the silly prices they're going for

these days.  Probably not going to get it tho - the chassis isn't

really like any of the current stuff, so it would mean starting up the

old tools again...

For the re-release...Yeah, I second that, Sand Rover.  (I think the inventor of the 1:1 Dune Buggy is making a come back with a 4 seater and much more hp motor.)  However, I would like to see a modern chasis on the Sand Rover.

For something different, Tamiya can put out a boat/car or car/boat where it has 4 wheels like a regular car but is water tight and switches over a water jet system once in the water.  (I recall from the old Tamiya Japanese web site, some engineer within the organization did built such a vehicle based on the XC Pajero.)

Tamiya should also put out a conversion kit for the 1/350 battleships and carrier from static to pond worthy RC.  Doesn't have to go fast like a speed boat but scale speed.  It can be done but need re-enforcing in certain areas and balance of components, else need a RC sub. for retreive them.

 cheers

A 2006 Baja Bug, ie: a car that is to the Sand Scorcher what the Hi-Lift is to the Bruiser.Bashers that are built and designed to appeal as much as models as they are RC vehicles, something that used to be Tamiya speciality.

That´s exactly what came to my mind too. I can´t image that Tamiya

doesn´t take a look around the www on the miscellaneous collector´s

sites. TC is probably one of the biggest (if not the biggest) site

engaged with vintage RC-Cars, and if you take a look at the member´s

rides or the forum, there´s one model that´s imho the most popular -

it´s the Sandscorcher, followed by the 4-Speeds

(Toyota/BlazerBruiser/Mountie). I think that´s one of the reasons Big T

released the HiLift.

There´s also a big collector´s scene in

Japan (they even got a own racing class at Yatabe) - I know nothing

about marketing, but I would exactly check the market - and an

OffRoad-Buggy with a VW Beetle-Body enthuses many people - even the

young "Fast-Food-plug-and-play-ready-to-run"-clientel...

And

the reason (imho) the "New Bruiser" came out before a new Baja? They

got a Body (Modified Juggernaut) and a gearbox (modified Hauler

Series). OK - a Body and a georbox doesn´t make a car (the axels are

brand new), but I think they had a good base for a new bestseller.

Nobody

can really say what´s coming next, but I think that Tamiya is working

on a new Baja and they want to make a good - no - a very good job...

(.....or maybe I´m totally of the mark and Tamiya doesn´t do anything like that.....)

Yea I was hoping for a modern tank too. I guess a panther is the next

best thing if we have to go the WWII route. Someone said Leopard 2's

development cost was partly paid by the manufactuer, which could

explain why it's the only modern tank in the lineup.

How about a Sand scorcher that justifies the cost.

Alloy rear cage and frontguard

Carbon twin deck with space for a stick battery pack.

Brushless motor and controller

Polished alloy gearbox covers

Differential

Coil over oil suspension

Chrome coated wheels with original tyres.

Tickle the upright situation so we move away from those white plastic bearing cups that always pop out

Alloy stinger pipe

Full bearing set included with the kit.

How much would you pay for one of these I wonder???

I might sell my NIB !

I don't think brushless is common enough for Tamiya to including

brushless setups with kits (many kits still come without ESC, even!)

but I like that many new top-end kits are coming with full ball

bearings (Sand Viper, Dark Impact).

Just thinking aloud, I reckon

a Smart Car M04 would be really cool - although it would mean

re-designing the chassis rails to be shorter (M04S ?)  I don't know how

popular the Smart is in Japan (they have a huge market for "K-class"

miniature cars, due to strict parking/road tax laws).  I'm not a fan of

the Smart, but I reckon it'd sell well.  Biggest issue is the Swatch

marketting - I have a feeling they'd charge silly money for the licence

[;)]

I also think some more realistic pickups would be nice.  The

good old S10, F150 Ranger, Brat etc were favourites in their day - they

had pretty good "fun" chassis, and reasonable scale styling.  These

days there isn't really anything apart from the big-budget Hi-Lift or

the poorly-rated (and poorly scaled) Stadium Raider in that category.

How about a Blackfoot or Hi-Lift or similar hard body on a modified

buggy chassis (DF-03, DT-02) etc? The Stadium Raider fits nicely over

the chassis, but the TL-01 is outdated (I was advised not to buy one

given its poor handling compared to modern buggy chassis) the body

still looks like a monster truck with those big cut arches, and the

wheels are just too big for scale looks.

Or maybe I should just buy another DI and stick a blackfoot body on it [;)] myself

A 935 1/10 or 1/8...

Rear wheel drive, modern suspension, big rear wheels, lightning kit, scale looks (means adjustable HUGE rear wing).

Yeah, that's what I really want...[G]

Grtz Dee.

PS Mr. Tamiya (I know you are watching) I'm dead serious!

Modern Sand Scorcher, it makes sense for Tamiya with the re re of the three speed.  Wonder if the VW body will be a issue to obtain rights.  Maybe  JAnderson knows something ???
