I went on a trip last weekend to London together with the wife....of course a visit to Harrods was in place, and they actually sell Tamiya too! I hoped to see an F350 there but no such luck. We also went to Hemmley (sp??), a very big toy store on Regent street...I loved it...and they also had Tamiya there (also 3 tank kits....those boxes are BIG!)

I also saw the Tamtech Hornet and Frog, they are very nice!!

What amazed me where the prices.... they were about 1,5 times more expensive then a kit from Honk Kong / Japan even with shipping and tax included[:o]

Still it was cool to see the collection of NIB's on the shelf....[Y]

Another cool thing at Harrods was a 1/3 or 1/4? scale Hummer....gasoline motor, 3 speed and real suspension...just 23.000 pounds (this is NOT a typo)...nice for the kids! [:S]

In fairness though Hamleys and Harrods prices are about the most expensive ones you will find anywhere [;)].

When I was a kid Hamleys used to genuinely seem to live up to its motto of "the largest/best toyshop in the world", and their RC department truly was impressive. I remember my gran taking me there before Christmas one year and seeing the Hilux and the demo video playing showing about 15 of the Tamiya HiLuxes pulling the real thing [H].

I think these days though with the internet and the easy availability of toys from around the world, that the days of places like Hamleys are numbered other than for novelty value sadly.

I still like a gd old toy shop, the feelin is there surrounded by models all that you can see in real life before buying, not a picture on a screen.

Tho I am not suprised at the prices of hamleys and harrods. All uk tamiya importers are overpriced and whilst things are coming down I think there is still someway to go espcially on the high street. Fusion and Goldstar I know are doing the best they can and credit to them its most definately a start that i hope more will follow.

Yeah the feeling was great.....so good I just decided to buy the F350, I wanted it since I knew it was coming....The fact JR-RC has a great deal on them now was the final push I needed to hit the BIN [:D]

Bearings bought too.....have a 4ch allready together with no limit ESC and high torque servo + saver.......I just got me an early birthdaypresent.....I really look forward to the build!!

Wish I'd seen that price on JR-RC. Ordered mine on Friday from DragonShopHK. Still I got a good deal compared to UK prices, just not as good as that. Looking forward to building mine too, but I got to wait till Xmas, as it's a pressie.

Cheers

I've seen those big scale Hummers at FAO Schwarz in  NYC. Sell for like $30K or some rediculous price. Cool yes, about the size of a golf cart maybe???

When I was a kid (11 or 12) they had a similar scale LP500S also that sold for about $25K. Had a 2 cyl 4 cycle engine and looked like it would fit a 3 or 4 year old. Coolest part about that one was the machined alloy wheels and inflated slicks on all 4 ;)

Thanks for the memory Martin :)
