i have a touareg packed away for christmas, the misses insisted ! was woundering if the wheels where just touring car wheels and would some other better looking wheels fit the tyres. also if im locking both diffs up, is there any point having a torque splitter and if so how does this work. what motor can someone recommend as im buying all the bits i need ready for the christmas build. already got the ballraces, new acoms 40mhz radio and an upgraded esc.

wheels are touring car size

Torque splitter is useless whether you lock the diffs or not.  All it does is alow the front diff to free spin from the reardiff but what this also does is give you no front brakes or front drive in reverse.

IMO anything over a 23turn motor is overkill

Hi Tamiya monkey,

Yes wheels are just touringcar wheels, but you could also take Pajero or High Lift wheels. If you are locking both diffs - warning in package only one original locking set available - there is no use for the torque splitter. Just look at it as the drive chain of a bike, if you turn the peddles bike goes forward, but if you release - and consequently turn backwards - nothing happens. Motor type depends on needs, if you want to do crawling/trialing/climbing go for a low speed, high torque one. Otherwise stock will do, hot motors make XC's roll...

Simple Xc is the best for fun - As with our beach raiders [:D]

rubber shielded bearings, stock esc (has full reverse), Stock motor (runs for 45mins +), softer shock oil, custom steel sump guard, A tuperware box to keep the electrics all clean and ure away, Just file down the outside of the steering shaft or it will bind with the first sand you reach,

not fully true... my touareg has a 17x2 motor and its fine. sure it rolls but thats full speed all the time BUT if driven like a racer it handles quite well. . only mods are bull ball bearings and a home made mud cover that doesnt work [:(]

my XC cam bog standard with just the locked rear diff, standard motor and standard setup, just with bearings, in this way it was a lot of fun good all rounder, fast enouh to have a drive with and slow enough to crawl

i now use black 5 spoke schumacher wheels (as said just standard TC 1.9 wheels)

55t lathe motor, modded rear suspension modded front suspension, fully waterproofed and with lead weights too and lsd front diff and locked rear

really depends what you want to do with it really[:)]
