Ok, after several previous attempts to perforate myself with badly hammered roll pins, I've finally found a better way;

On the Traxxas Stampede tranny, there's one 1.5mm Ø roll/sellock pin on the spur gear shaft, and not having a vice handy, it's a reet pain to assemble.

Did find one tip suggesting heating the shaft to around 400° F so that the hole expanded slightly, but that just had potential disaster and minor burns written all over it.

So, whilst fixing the tap in the bathroom the other day, I found a set of Robo Grip pliers - sweet.

The jaws travel virtually parallel all the way shut, so there's no arc force on the sellock pin making it want to bend.

Here's the skinny;

First off, the pin is bigger than the hole, so a lead needs forming on one end.

Slightly bend in one side, then squeeze at 90°to the gap, so the join overlaps;

This makes one end slightly 'conical'

Then, with the tapered end in the hole in the shaft, lightly squeeze the handles and the sellock pin should just glide in (mine did)

In order for the pin to protrude from the far side, you'll need to slightly mis-align the last 2-3mm, but these pliers had a slight 'overbite' too, so it was no biggie

Vwaaaaaaalllaaaaaah

Slight distortion in order to make lead-in

Sit back, admire handywork, and await onslaught of attention from the laydeez
