Just wondering what peoples opinions are of Tamiya's Super Stock motor series. I'm not at all convinced by the budget Venom Fireball 17 turn motors I've got in my TXT and i'm going to replace them. Torque is more imprtant to me than speed but a good balance of both is obviously the thing i want.CheersToby

Hi,

I'm running super stock TZ's  in my TXT and after glueing the tires it started doing wheelies [:P] I get about 10-15 minutes runtime from a Sanyo 2000 battery pack.

I can't compare with other motors but I think it's pretty powerfull

The Tamiya Super Stocks are great motors. I can only recommend them. [Y]

I own all motors of the series. The new Super Stock BZ is specially made for Off Road Racing. Great torque.

I use this one in my Mighty Bull.

Are you sure the TZ has more torque? Here are the specs for both at Modelsport  RZ Specification:No. of turn: 23 turnsvoltage range: 7.2VRPM at no load: 27,500rpm (7.2V)Best efficiency: 76%Torque at best efficiency: 500gf.cm (7.2V)TZ Specification: No. of turn: 23 turnsProper voltage range: 7.2VRPM at no load: 26,500rpm (7.2V) Best efficiency: 78%Torque at best efficiency: 500gf.cm (7.2V)They both seem to have similar torque efficiency

Just done some research and the TZ is tuned for torque and the RZ for high speed. Does anyone know where the BZ fits into the scheme of things?

The RZ has just a bit more RPM and even torque (look at graphs on their boxes) as it has laydown type brushes which give more advanced timing, but differences are small, so I would preffer TZ as its brushes last a bit longer, have all 3 (RZ, TZ and BZ) and can only recommend them, great improvement over stock motors with moderate current ESC needs, I call them modern Technigolds. [Y] As said RZ and TZ are more for on roaders while BZ for off roaders, but actually they work fine the way around.

I second that. This motor series is highly recommended, with very good peformance on one hand and long lasting on the other hand and with their low price you get a sure winner! I have three motors (2 RZs and one TZ) that I run regularly and am very satisfied.

What about the BZ though whats it all about, it's difficult to get information on it other than its only just been released. It seems to have a pretty similar specedit. The BZ has the most torque, sounds like a good bet for my TXT

Cheers for the info everyone. Just bought myself two BZ's for my TXT and an RZ for my Top Force project. Can't wait for them to see some action

I have an RZ in my TT01 chassis and can fully vouch for it. It's also a great motor for drifting - doesn't generate much heat and seems to have spot on levels of power. I tend to use Sport tuned motors in my off roaders though as the simple sealed end bell gets less mucky and is easier to clean.

I have a Venom 19 double and find the top end good, but they really lack torque. It goes well in my Blitzer Beetle though as traction is at a premium off the line, so lower torque is useful. I agree though, that for the number of turns they are not great compared to other motors of a similar spec. They are cheap though!

Yeah the torque of the Venom motors is pretty terrible. They'll happily get my TXT up to a decent top speed on the flat but they won't power it slowly over anything, even my legs! They're better off in buggies.

Anyway just bought 3 RZ's, if there's not much difference between them then i've gone for colour over performance. The red RZ's will really go with my red TXT and red Top Force (god I'm vain)

Same for me LOL, have put a RZ in my Frog as it has also anodized red/pink colour

and will put a blue TZ in my Hornet

It would be interesting to see somone cut appart a TZ and BZ rotor

to see exactly what the differences are.  I'm guessing they use

different wire thickness or wind count.  I know both have 23

turns, but there must be somthing special in there because the end-bell

is the same.  I use a TZ in my Vanquish runner.  The car

really flys, but I have yet to take it off-road for the real test. It

was necissary to gear it down to keep heat under control...

The TZ was also placed into my brothers lunchbox, but would have

problems overheating the TEU-101BK speed control. It would, however, do awesome long distance wheelies. With

all this abuse

the motor has held quite well.  The brushes are hardly worn &

the com looks quite good.  Just keep the bushings lubed every so

many runs...

Sorry to drag this thread up yet again, but as Prescient notes, it keeps it all in one place.

I've picked up a couple of new Super Stock Type R (53476) and Super Stock Type T (5347) nice and cheap; Hobbycraft were selling them at half price as they seem to be ditching RC equipment, which seemed a good deal as I wanted some motors with just a bit more ooomph than the Sport Tunes I've got.

But I can't find on either the packaging, the instructions, the motors themselves, or references on here, internet  Ebay, how many turns they are? I don't know whether they are considered 'standard stock' like a Sport Tuned and can be handled by good old TEU 101BK ESC, or whether I need to get something else (in which case I still don't know the specs so don't know what turn limit ESC)

I presume they are similar specification to the 'Z' motors discussed here, or older, but I don't know....

Helpful advice please![:S]

The Type R, S, T and RR motors are all 23 turn, but low torque compared to the RZ,TZ,BZ (about 225-230g-cm compared to 500g-cm)

Just out of curiosity, is Hobbycraft a model store in the UK, or an Ebay store??

Thanks

Hobbycraft is a big superstore in the UK, normally found on big out-of-town shopping complexes. They do everything from artists paints, paper, flower arranging, crafts, and more interestingly Scalextric, model kits, paints and materials, glue... etc etc. They did do Tamiya RC cars  paints through last year and this year but have recently ditched that stock. I managed to get some sale priced motors and Nimh batteries but that was a few weeks ago now.

Thanks for your help; the low torque doesn't worry me as I'll probably use in the small/light weight Minis.

Yeah, I used the TEU101BK ESC with my Super Stock TZ with my M03..... works ok!
