hi everybody,

could someone advice me how to make the Hilux unstoppable? i mean even in first gear it shows lack of power, i've installed a Carson Fighter Machine (23turns i think) its better but still lacks of power.

- Should i go with a novak 4.5, 5.5 or 6.5 brushless system? Seems a bit too much power for the old 3 speed though...
otherwise
- I'v found a gear reduction unit 4:1 that fits on the motor and extends it about 18mm, don't know if this fits? last question, what type of spur gear fits the hilux because there are so many different types out there...

thanks for helping me out,

Hi,

I am a bit surprised to be honest as my runner Hilux would not stop apart from loosing grip. I have a Tamiya Sport Tuned and it's just perfect, power has never been a problem. Are you sure the gearbox is working as it should? Maybe you should replace the 1150 bearings inside with ball bearings.

Ultimately fit a Bruiser gearbox, with it's 750 motor then really it would be unstopable...but you will need to make some mods at the front.

Battery carrying enough charge?

Motor in proper working condition?

Any damages to the wirings?

Is the speed controller in proper working condition?

All the gears from tranny to axle meshing properly and not worn out?

I would check the basic first before replacement works.

ok so you guys are saying that the stock hilux is unstoppable in first gear except for wheel spin it should go up +45% hills?

i will check your list

batteries are new

motor new too

wiring is still the genuine one so this could be changed

speed controller is a new robbe

I'm afraid that if I open the gearbox i never will be able to put it back together lol seems complex...

check for any sort of binding or drag

that gearbox and a stock silvercan motor in first should be unstopable. Mine is.

Check the esc and radio setup, see if it's programmed correct. Battery conection ok? Maybe that motor is dead?

You should not have to open the gearbox unless something is crunching.

HI again,

Well, to rule out the eventuality of a gearbox problem remove the motor and try to turn the rear output shaft by hand. Is it smooth on any of the 3 speed?

One more thing...are the wirings in good conditions and the plugs whether is Tamiya or Dean's are in full contact. If not enough current going to the motor it will turn very slow with no torque at all.

Also taking apart the tranny is not that difficult.  Just take your time, take lots of photos if you have digital camera from different angles and make sure the photos are clear before going to the next removal step, and sketch the locations of the parts if you have to.

If you can't get hold of the tranny lay out for the 3spd, the next best thing is the 1/14 big rig, the tranny is similar and should give you some idea how the gears masses together.

I'd have to agree on checking the tranny. If you take it apart do it slowly and organize all the parts. Do the reverse to assemble. Shouldn't be excessively difficult with patience (you don't have to take it 100% apart to service).

If you don't disassemble, remove the tranny from the chassis and with the propeller shaft attached spin it manually and check for binding.

best,
