Differential problems Wild One

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am new on this forum.

But I am a very enthousiastic tamiya collector since a year or five.

I am the proud and lucky owner of a very nice Wild One. And I cannot resist to run this shelf queen once in a while. Now, since the beginning I had problems with the differential, it doesn't seem to turn smooth. And there is very quick wearing out. At least that is what I think it is. After a few runs the diff wil make tic's in turns and when I turn the wheels by hand it feels rough, not smooth.

I replaced the bevel gears and even the differential spacer, and 5mm washer. But it doesnt solve the problem.

Is this a known problem with this gearbox?

And Could there be done something about it?

 Best regards,

Joris Schulte(NL)

Hi Joris

The Wild One gearbox is a well known problem. Your best bet I think is to dissasemble it, clean it and rebuild it exactly as shown in the instructions. I'm sure others will be able to give you further advice on ways of improving the 'wear' on it...

Try some forum searches aswell - this problem has been discussed a few times before.

Is there another diff option?   A ball diff from another Tamiya or Thrope/CRP diff that will fit?

My Wild One has exactly this issue, and I have just bought a NIP gearbox case to start tackling it.

I use a thorp ball diff from a frog in my fast attack.  The plastic case from the FAV/wildone flexes too much under load causing the bevel gears to slip.  using a thorp will solve your problems
