My new built MB landed from the USA yesterday (same day as my NB Fox showed up). Brand new chassis - seems to have been built yesterday. The deep red body has turn pinkish red while the sticker job is not immaculate (starting peel and bubble), so I will probably procure a new body and on-sell the old one - still a very nice body (I'm ultra fussy). After my first recent ABS body job (VLB) I know I could do a very nice body.

Does anybody have experience with the reproduction MB stickers currently on the bay for sale? These will no doubt last the distance compared with a NIP sticker set from 1988. Excuse my ignorance as I expect a TC member is sellling/producing them.

I date the kit to 1988, as it came with a MRC Tamiya catalog from 1988 - hmm nice. The dampers bind on full jounce so I suspect no oil. I think the vehicle has been a shop display for quite some years. Thanks to my wife for carting it home 2km from the post office while pushing my 17 month old daughter in the stroller, while I was at work.

Why don't you paint the body read instead of selling it, unpainted it will never look as great, also some MBs came with white bodies which anyway had to be painted.

TC has some very good repro decals http://www.tamiyaclub.com/parts_shop_repro.asp (but unfortunately no MB ones) most of the other repros are relatively poor in quality in comparison (in the end you usually get what you pay), but since MB decals are not as expensive as SS ones I would try to get the original ones for a new built car.

I would be happy to buy a new body and paint that one in Indian Red(?) as I have not stripped an ABS body before.

3 options:

1) Buy a new body - no brainer

2) Paint over the old one - existing paint job is pretty good.

3) Strip the paint - what product/chemcial is best to use that won't attack the ABS?

Thanks!!

TC member 'scollins' has a set of repro MB decals for sale, check it out .I use auto brake fluid to remove old paint - it needs a good soak all over and brushing into the detail to really get in there, this can take a few days on and off depending on the type and trhickness of paint on the shell .Once all the paint is off ,then wash well with soapy water ,degrease and proceed with painting process as normal- sorted  [:D]
