OK I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I haven't bought any new RC stuff

for a while, but I've had lots of potential projects planned. Now I've

just found out I've got some money coming through from a job I did back

in the summer, and feel like splashing out on something...  But -

WHAT? Hopefully will have about £300 to spend, so...

1)

My LHS had some Hi-Lifts in for £325 - inc. 4ch radio, battery, paint

etc...  They've sold out now, but I'm hoping they will get more

kits at the same superb price.  I could buy and build a stock

Hi-Lift and have some fun driving it around my local woods, but worried

that I might get bored with its lack of speed and lack of true climbing

ability without any good modifications.  Any Hi-Lift owners care

to comment?

2) I could try to find a TXT or NIB Super Clod, and run it as a

fun monster/crawler., then maybe modify it later.  Any clod / TXT

owners care to comment?  Would a TXT or Clod be better?

3) I could try to find a TLT, build and run it standard while I

get familiar with the chassis, then start modifying to build a good

1/10 scale off-roader during the winter months, ready for next year.

4)

Buy an M03 Mini, build it standard, compare the chassis to my M04 and

decide how to make my M03 4x4 Mini (either use back end of an M04, or

an M03 front end reversed).

Most of my running is done

off-road, as that's what my local area is best for.  Tarmac

running can only be done on industrial estates when the traffic is

quiet, which is a bit restrictive...

I really fancy owning

a Hi-Lift, but...  Don't wanna buy one and then find myself bored,

wishing I'd gone with a TXT / TLT / Clod.

I like the idea of making something custom, but would also like

to build and run something NIB to start with, before I get into making

custom stuff.

Your thoughts would be appreciated [:D] [:D] [:D]

For that sort of money I'd be getting a TXT from Stella, you would have enough left over to ballrace it and get a brace of serious motors and an ESC. Then go out squashing stuff.

The high lift is a nice scale looking ute, but seriously for a runner I'd choose the TXT (I assume this is what you want it for?)

Customize the **** out of the TXT, you will have a chassis that looks so much more impressive than any TLT/mini/high lift based machine.

you could always get an XC/cc01 toerag i have a  highlift and a pajero, the pajero is by far better off road, but the highlift is much more scale to drive off road and really is funmust admit i have thought about a tlt and making it into a 1:10 scale crawler, but then i bought a hi lift instead and do not regret it at allalso, there will be a 4 link kit (well probably) for the hilift to improve flex and off road abilityif it was a question of crawling or speed, i would crawl anyday, much more technical, with longer runtimes and generally less wear on partshopw this helpsIan

just bought a cc01 touareg, but wife sent it to santa so waiting for him to bring it back.  like the cc01 as you can run a little faster if needed or lock both diffs and do some crawling, mine will be spending alot of time on the beach.

Easy choice - go with a txt-1 !

TXT-1 Benefits:

  • Go anywhere
  • Go fast
  • OR Slow
  • Crawl
  • Race
  • Bash !

Clodbuster:

  • Slow out of the box
  • Can be modded to anything
  • tons of aftermarket chassis designs - some of them cheap too !

TLT-1:

  • great, fun build
  • easily hopped up
  • tons of aftermarket chassis designs - some really cheap too
  • fun in stock form (low ground clearance though)

Touareg/High Lift & others:

  • Slow !
  • More for scale driving which equals SLOW
  • Novelty will wear off

M03:

  • Are you serious [:|]

I have owned a txt, clodbuster, touareg, tlt & tlo1, so I have a general idea.  Check my showroom & TC Photos pages.  Just my opinion though.  I would go with that "gut feeling" [Y].  Either way, you will enjoy them all !

If you want to buy a TLT and mod it to 1/10 size its really easy to do and I have just done a walkthrough guide here http://tamiyaclub.com/CS/forums/thread/190157.aspx plus it will give you a good idea of what you can acheive. I did this in place of buying the ford high lift. Different kettle of fish but good fun and really cheap to do. I also have a super clod and as standard its fun but no true crawler although a wonderfully imposing truck. The money you would need to spend to get them really good as a crawler is quite high.

As for a mini M-03L, my new built one is for sale in the trades section. I have never done more than bench test it but my understanding is they are good fun. If you want on road 4WD you could consider a TL01 or TT01 for a tight budget kit. I have a TL01 focus and with ball racers, and a 19T Reedy motor and it is really quick. So for the money of a high lift you could do a 1/10 TLT and a on road kit.

Hmm i dont think you can beat a Touareg and TB01 rally car.

Touaregs are awesome fun anywhere u race them on or off road and the Tb01 in rally trim is a serious beast.

The F350 is a great build, and a magnificent car - but it doesn't stop at that: you need bearings, paint, a 4ch TX, ... So it'll be more expensive than the others.

The M03 is a real disappointment, I think (I have one too). The clodbuster is based on an old but proven chassis - but I'd go for the TXT... I've had so much fun with my juggernaut, whereas I have barely touched my clod...

So in conclusion, I'd go for the TXT!

Totally agree with Backtomyroots a TXT-1 all the way. They are dirt cheap on Ebay at the moment, you can get one imported into the UK for not much over £200 (half what they used to cost in your LHS) The TXT is just never ending fun, great to build, great to run, great to look at.Here's mine in action doing things and going places a buggy (or even a High-Lift for that matter) could never go http://www.tamiyaclub.com/moviecomment.asp?id=1845&uid=14440   And remember this is with stock motors, its even more fun if you put powerful motors in it.
