I know a couple of club members are

going to the Tamiya GP this weekend so even if its not ready for

display there any Tamiya employees will be able to confirm it.

So sorry, I didn't know it was you[:$]. This is shaping up great!

JUST DON'T BE LYING TO US JASON, we couldn't take that kind of

heartbreak, you might have a wave of Tamiyaclub suicides if this turns

out to be untrue...  Could you handle that much blood on your

hands?

He, he... At least brat_attacks and Subaru_brat_junky will be victims.. [;)

And me. The Brat was my first (minds outta the gutter boys). Though I have another built from parts (a pic is posted around here somewhere). I still wonder if I should get one for the new car smell.

News of this from another source:

This is simply great news! I don't understand how I could miss it! This tread has bean here for tree days! Thank you Jason, an thank you Tamiya! Personally this is one of my favorite Vintage Tamiya body's, and the absolutt best car on the frog chassis! Since I became a TC member, right after the Hornet was rereleased, they have just come up with better and better stuff. Is like they have a agent in my head or somthing, I am wondering about just sending them my wallet[:D]

I hope its going to be in the original colour....not that it would stop people buying it of course!!

Looks like thats another 2 kits on the shopping list.

Keep the re-re's coming Tamiya!! Thats about the only way you would keep me as a return customer......your modern stuff sucks (except for a few noteable exceptions)

Just go back from the show, the retail price will be Y20,000 (the frog was Y16,800). The roll bar on the display has a metal core but the rep I spoke to did not know if it will be in the final version or it will be like the re-release body set without one.

Don't like that paint job at all, looks well dodgy. Surely they'll use the original box art colour scheme just like all the other re-re's?

I know this next question is fairly inevitable but did anybody who went to the show ask Tamiya if they've got any other re-re's planned for next year?

Posted

Jason, i must ask ;)

Was there any new 1/16 scale armour there?

Rumors sugest that tamiya would present one there, a german wwII tank.

Back to the brat...

Cool ! :)

I just hate re-releases!

After months, maybe years of searching for nice wheels and tires (SS/Grasshopper) now they release "Pajero" and "Ford Ranger" wheels AND tires...

A genuine XR-311 body?

A Grasshopper?

A Lancia?

A Ferrari 312T?

A Sixwheeler?

A new RX-7 Body? It already exists (HPI), at least release something special, like the first generation or something like that...

Now, a Brat? You're kidding me!

STOP IT!!!

When will the heritage of Tamiya be sacred?[:@]

Yeah, I know it's about the money...obviously.

Well, I'm not in it for the money.

I just want to have something special, something valueable in terms of collectability, a bit of old-times-sake!

Hmm, must be me alone then...[:'(]

Shame on Tamiya as it shows no intention of development what so ever, just to get as much money out of old designs.

A new Three-speed?

THAT's what I want, new designs, new cars, innovation!

Sorry, got this of my chest.[:$]

Completely disagree ![:@]

For me, Tamiya is still the most innovative manufacturer in RC.

For example. I like the Mazda RX-7 very much. But never bought that body from HPI. Because it can´t compare

with the perfect look of a Tamiya body.

Cheers

Ehm, nope.. don't agree.

I rather order a set of new wheels then trawl the web for months, and do

a bidding war against somebody elso who did the same.

I prefer to buy a nib grasshopper, just for the fun of driving it. Against spending months on restoring

one and then finding out it is actually a piece of junk to drive and was not woth the efford to build in a esc.

Example, i spend many months to restore a basket case Leopard 1A4,  gathering parts, cleaning it up, doing the work

of restoring. (and loving every step of it)

If Tamiya decided on re-releasing the 1A4, ( dumping the "cash" value of my collection)

Would really like that! More parts for resto's , and drive without affraid of breaking that unreplaceble / expensive part.

I think tamiya is doing a good mix, bringing out new models, and , re-releasing old one's. (imho of course :) )

Speaking for myself, not going to buy that XRTXXRTT50-2 new buggy/racer..  Going to get me that brat when it is out.

They just should bring out a new 1/14 rig and 1/16 tank ;)

I also totaly disagree. The old models are perfect models, so beautiful etc. But many can't afford them, so this is the solution. We have abetter chance to get the models.

Posted

Well   I.M.H.O parts on the whole tend to be date stamped so not realy effecting the price of the original model

boxes are also different , basically it means if you want a runner buy a re re and if you want the shelfer buy the

original ! and to be fair some of the people on here the re re will be there first time such as joel vardy not old

enough if im right to remember the first run of the brat ! and for all the big kids a chance to drive a brat like you

did the first time ! [;)]

I do see the point made by DeeMiller that all these re're's could be seen in some respects as an inability by Tamiya to come up with anything new. Since getting back into the hobby this year one big question for me has been what did Tamiya know in the 80's about RC buggy design that they don't know now?

But, and this is a BIG BUT, if the off road RC market is a very small part of an already small market Tamiya may well have the right to argue that why should they put a lot of effort and money into the development of amazing new buggies if very few people are going to buy them. Surely it's cheaper for them to re-re buggies that they know will at least have some appeal even if that is at a very small level. However if the latter part of this argument is true I still don't see why they don't re-re the more collectable cars like the Hotshot/Supershot, Monster Beetle etc... I suppose at the end of the day it is all about the money.

Anyway I'm all for the re-re's i think its a good thing that it gives those like myself who don't have mega bucks to spend on the hobby a chance to own the buggies we always dreamed of, although I must add i never once dreamt of owning a Subaru Brat, it never interested me back in the 80's and it doesn't really get me excited now I'm afraid. I'm just glad Tamiya are continuing the re-re's

Posted

Well it was my first car back in '83, and I cant wait for a re-re (or 2) to join my originals. I have an original runnner, and am looking forward to a healthy supply of parts for it. As mentioned the box will probably be like all re-re versions, so will be different to the original (of which I have NIB). I wont be parting with the original thinking the price will fall. It is in my optinion one of the most realistic buggys they made, and is great fun to drive

Posted

Ok, what about a re-release of the Sand Scorcher or Rough Rider then?

Not very likely but: the Hi-Lux?Bruiser?Mountaineer?

All great cars but would you see that happen?

I don't think so (remember the joke of the re-re SS?).

If you approve on the Brat, you'll giving out a sign to Tamiya...

Sure, it is fun to drive those "old designs" just for the occasion but there are (better) substitutes (not only Tamiya).

I'm talking about the effort to restore a precious model and a few weeks later they just re-release the **** thing![:@]

Sure, handy when you can just pick up parts off the shelf!

I'm talking about true collectors, not the people who want to drive it occasionally to get into the hobby: you are born too late brats!

If you like RC, get the originals and drive them, treasure them, make the heritage worth it!

When you find out the parts are rare and expensive, you'll discover if you're really into this hobby or just rather spend money on other things...ask yourself, truly.

.....

I still hate re-releases.

Feel free to comment[:D]

But whether or not you're 'in to the hobby' shouldn't at all be dictated by how much money you want to spend, or indeed have got to spend. Your argument sounds like RC snobbery if you ask me, not a good thing. Some of us don't have the time or indeed the money to spend on the hobby that others do, so for that reason alone I'm glad Tamiya are continuing with the re-re's, and long may they do so.

At the end of the day this hobby like any hobby is for everyone regardless of financial wealth. Sure I'd like to have squadrons of Supershots or Avante's or Bruisers or whatever like some people do but I can barely afford one car to enjoy let alone 5 or 6 let alone vintage one's to 'make the heritage worth it'.

Just a short reply. The rere's actually have given birth to some real collectors like my self. The rere Hornet was the direct reason I gott back into Tamiyas and also the reason I found this place. I have never owned a Brat and I would probably never had owned it either if it had not bean rereleased. (Just some bad grammar there, don't owe it yet...)

For the old SRB's and 3-speeds I am not sure what to think, I am pretty sure it won't happen, and I have to ask Dee.

What do you think of repro body's and other parts? I think that this is pure good! I think that there is a lot of cars out there that would not have bean compleeted if it was not for that?

But, what would have bean even better, would be if Tamiya could have released the old Brat body on a new scale like 4wd chassis, so I also agree with you to a sergent point. But you cant blame a big multinational company for making some money on old design's, or acuse them of making easy money. Just because they are giving out old stuff don't mean that they are not seriouse about the quality of there products, I think it means that they are taking their customers seriously. Even the small group of hardcore collectors.

Can't wait for the new Radio controlled guide book! Gonna be a collectors item one day for sure:-)

Cheers

You are missing my point but I'm glad you are enjoying the re-re's.[:D]

I am talking about collectability, not money.

IF you want to spend a lot of money (read: sacrifice) on a certain vintage part, you are a true collector imho.

I can't help it when a part is rare and people want to pay a lot of money for it, so it isn't ment as "snobbishism" but just a case of demand and offer, not my fault...[;)]

@ Focus1: Repros: very personal, same for the decals.

I also hate re-re bodies (but I have one too: Toyota Celica LB).

To be fairly honest: I bought re-re Tyrell Sixwheeler parts just because they are there (but I prefer they wouldn't...can you still follow me?[;)])
