Hi all, just joined and figured I might as well share something with my first post.

While browsing the net looking for info on real older monster trucks I stumbled upon this monster wich I guess must have been the real life inspiration for the lovely box. Even the graphic design is pretty similar, and the chrome bumper has the same look. Noticeable differences are the square headlights and the roof lights. I've seen other real life comparisons but none of this particular kit.

And the scale one we all love for easy comparison

Wow, that's a really nice LB. It must have taken ages to get the driver and passenger figures painted, especially the moustache. Oh, hang on, it's a real one [:P].

Fantastic picture, and like you say it must have been the inspiration for the LB. It shows that when Tamiya made these models that they reflected the real cars of the time, unlike most of the trucks coming out today which only bear a passing resemblance to anything real. And it's given me an idea for my LB, as I've got some square spots laying around looking for a use, I might pop them onto a roof bar on the Lunchbox. Then again, with the Lunchbox's tendancy to land on the roof most times I jump it, perhaps I won't - they would only last 5 minutes!

Top picture, thanks for sharing it with us.

Welcome mate,

that is one cool picture as you said even the decals on the side are nearly a perfect match.....

The sign in the corner reads:

I find it amazing that monsters of the time had painted wheels!!

And here's me thinking yellow plastic wheels make an otherwise perfect monster truck look like a cheap toy [:(

When i saw the title for this thread i thought, That's STUPID, there is no real Lunchie, but ****!

Is it worth adding lights, since they aren't the most stable vehicles are they?

Welcome to TC!

What a great post too, i've never seen the real lunchbox before, thats a great pic!

I'm really into the vintage monster trucks, both rc and the real ones.

I've been meaning to add some pics i've got of old 1:1 monster trucks to my showroom - i think i'll get to work!

would it be ok for me to add the lunchbox pic you've found?

Nice find.I remember seeing this around 20 years ago on tv when Monster Trucks were shown usually around Xmas time here in the UK. Couldn't for the life of me remember what it was called though!

Actualy the old monsters bounced pritty good , but they relied on the "bounce" of the tires more than they did the suspention setup . I think it was said before in another post too that the Clod Buster in stock form is a perfect recreation of how the original monster trucks performed and I couldnt agree more ......
