hey everyone.

i was just wondering, why are there so few of these little cars on the site?

I picked up a Peugeot 206 WRC, kit 250, a few weeks ago from a bootsale.

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...=27112006200556

It wasn't exactly the type of car i would normally have gone for, as i'm more into vintage stuff, or trucks, but anyway - i thought it was worth the money!

The performence with the stock 27 turn silver can, and the msc, was pretty dull. so in stock form, i can see why only 4 other 206 runners exist in the showrooms.

but rather than leave it on the shelf, i decided to hop it up [:)]

a rebuild with full ball bearings, no limit esc and a 15 turn motor has transformed the car into a very fun machine! The chassis performs really well, with crazy power slides and over the top acceleration.

i'm not expert on all those car chassis tamiya have made, they are just a bunch of numbers to me (ta01, ta02 tb bla bla etc... [:P]) but i think this is a real quality little chassis, it even has a bit of carbon fibre in it [;)]

so, whats the deal with the 206? its got a brilliant lexan shell, and a fun chassis - so why are there so few on here?!

I think its not the fact of what it is but its getting hold of it that matters more. I have frequently looked for one on ebay, the short chassis being ideal for tight tarmac rally. But I cannot seem to find any that are reasonable condition nor super expensive. It seems to be one of those unoffical limited edition style items. Those ones like the Arai subaru tb01 that are just that little harder to find. The german rally no problem but the arai. Not a chance really.

Its a shame for I would really like on. Make a change from the stock lancers and scobbys.

I had one myself. I had a new built version, but I ran it. I found it to be a cracking car with only a modified motor on the standard spec. I did notice how difficult it was to get bodyshells, and eventually sold it, as on road isn't my thing

Yes I mean think about it.. Buying a car you are more likely pick another TA03 chassis as you can use all the types of shell. So this model probably didnt sell as well as the others so tamiya would slow down the production.

What was the spec like? as I cannot remember what the TA03 was like having not had one (yet).

I love all TA03Fs as they handle so reallistically due to their close to most 1:1 cars mass distribution, only the belt drive makes them not very suitable for off road.

Yeah belt drive and rally/street racing doesnt really mix as with my TA05. would make a wonderful tarmac rally car but was constantly eating stones. Unlike the TB02 or the trusty old TT01 lol.

Only if the belts and electrics are not sealed and open to stones and dirt. I stressed this many times before (apologise), but have a look at HPI kits. Most of them are belt drive and they are (or can be) protected by fantastic inner bodies. Maybe this is something you can think about with your TA05 or a TA03-S. With a little work you could easily make an inner body out of lexan sheets.

however sealing the TA05 is a right pain as its so open with the underside. Much easier to get a tb02. Also after adding a lexan sheet you have to alter the ride height and all. Yes it can be done. But a TB01/2 or a TT01 becomes much easier and reliable.

Or get a TB01 and monster it with an LA set for a proper gravel monster? There are many ways to skin the cat. Its what we all prefer [;)]

Problem is the HPI Rally is discontinued, also spares are much harder to get then for Tamiya, at least on my side of the world.

Not really, as HPI cars do share many parts with other chassis types. RS4 rally shares its chassis with Sport and Pro. Also many parts from Sport2/Pro2 can be used. Belts, bodies, inner bodies, damper bridges, steering knuckles, pulleys, diffs, body mounts, steering parts and many more are still available through HPI or Towerhobbies or other online shops. But I agree some might be harder to find, but not more than for TB01.

Don't get me wrong: I'm no representative of HPI, but the quality of those kits is simply amazing. I fully agree that there are some downsides (lack of scale appearance), but from my personal experience the quality of material is very good and performance is outstanding. Of course I can only speak of the onroad/rally cars I own myself or know from friends, so there is no generalisation here.

I think everybody should should buy whatever he wants, be it Tamiya or any other brand. Most important is we all have fun and joy out of what we get. And to get back to the original topic: You won't find such a nice short wheelbase rally car like Peugeot 206 from any other company than Tamiya and I would really LOVE to have one!

You're not a representative of HPI, supergreg?[:D]

Well, I am quite sure that TB-01 parts are still quite easy to get and I mean all parts. I should finish my Peugeot, I only have to apply the decals..

i think several people touched on it....

-it seemed to have been released in very low numbers (both the 206 and the Corolla) or the market for rally was poor then....

-only two shells fit this FS version

-the regular TA03 was more commonplace

personally....i LOVE the FS chassis.  it's super nimble and running the belt a bit slack will give a slightl FWD bias and setting the belt a bit closer o perfect will give a nice balanced feel.

i've had great luck running the chassis in 1-3mm size gravel....with the carbon decks.....in several years of ownership i've had a stone get caught betweent he pulley and belt just once.

i find they get stuck between the pulley and the gear box more often.

personally....i'm happy to see something else than a lancer, focus, and impreza......so these were a must.

i've not seen one on eBay in about a year.....kinda sucks cause i'd love to have a whole spare chassis.

Well, having to buy from USA (TH) is not really what I would call availability [:^)] LOL when I can get or order Tamiya stuff in almost every LHS.

Still as you say the HPI is a very good performer, shame I don't like the company though (would have preffered it to be Kyosoho or Yokomo or XRay etc) [:$]

You can also get all parts from Hobby stores in germany, but for double or triple the price. Why not order at Towers? Usually arrives here in 10 days.

There are also Rally cars from other brands:

Yokomo MR-4 Rally

Kyosho Pureten Alpha-3

Academy STR-4

I cannot comment on those from personal experience, but some people say the quality of both (and performance) is inferior to HPI.

I still like my trusty TB01 as its never let me down. And its espically good in serious rally Gb style mud. Tho it can have some understeer that I loathe. I dnt see what you can have against Hpi really. There shells are cheap tho not as detailed so you pay for what you get. Tho I must say that uk parts are hard and expensive to get as they arent on ebay from hong kong that really helps with my tamiya's.

thesuper - Yeah I havent seen a tamiya 206 for ages on ebay. Tho there are often some other make shells they are longer and wider so look out of scale and slab sided.

I obtained a couple of weeks ago, and was going to put it on eBay...

It has a no limit ESC and a couple of hot motors with it.

Full set of radio gear.

2x batteries and a charger.

Anti-roll bars front & rear.

The 206 body is missing, but it has a Corolla body instead, but does have the box and full instructions.

I charged a battery and ran it about a bit, it seems to work okay but like all cars from an 'unknown' source, could probably do with a stripdown and regrease - just to make sure...

If anyone wants it, please email me an offer - I have little idea what it is worth, so please don't skank me !!

Cleaned up by his capable wife... [;)] all over the lounge floor as per usual... [:D] Well it makes a change from Minis.

Alex forgot to mention that it includes the original white wheels (new and on their sprues) and carbon fibre steering.

His email is tamiyaclub@vipernoir.co.uk (I don't think its showing in his profile).
