Help [:0]

Bought a tank on ebay- cheap. [:D But, it has been badly built, glue everywhere. [8)]

Is there anything I can use to dissolve it? Or must I just carefully scrape it off? Will very hot/boiling water do any good [?]

Many Thanks Everyone [:D]

hi,

Boiling water will separate parts glued together, but so will leaving them to soak underwater, if u leave them fully submersed for a couple of days, then the pieces will simply pull apart. This is probably better than boiling water as there is little chance of deforming whatever plastic you are using. This works because glue only sets when there is a lack of moisture, ie, the water in the glue evaporates, thats why it never dries in the bottle. (but does set ur fingers together [:(!])

hope all that helps,

Umm, wrong. [:I]

CynoAcrylate (aka super/crazy glue) NEEDs water moisture to cure.

It sets faster if you breathe on it.

(If you knew what it was originally designed for, you'll totally understand why it glues skin so well.)

CA is not water soluble... its totally different to the bone glues used on the back of postage stamps.

Heat weakens the bond of CA & epoxy, so don't use them to repair teapots.

Acetone dissolves cured CA.

Hi all,

Sorry guys, guess that was bad info on my part. I know the real reason that CA bonds skin together but like others i will leave the answer out of the forum, kids read this you know!

I was sticking things together with a mate the other day, little metal wargaming figures, and i asked, why does this stuff stick your fingers together?! trying desperately to yank my fingers apart. Needless to say when he told me i wished i hadnt asked.

B'coz... it was designed to glue human skin together.

It is a replacement for sutures (hospital stitching).

That's why Cynoacrylate is non-toxic and biocompatible.

When you try yank your fingers apart, that's its strongest axis

(perpendicular to the bond), you'll tear skin off before it breaks.

But CA bond has a weak point too, "along the grain". Use a pencil

and try open the bond like a zipper... its much less painful

that way if you don't have any acetone handy.

If boiling ain't on the menu... [}:)]

Every First Aid kit should have a fresh tube of CA!
