How come some posts I can delete, others I can't?

Just tried to delete a post almost immediately after posting it in the 'Wild Wendy' topic, but can't

But in the 'Prototype Scorcher' topic I can still delete posts

Ok, deleted the WW post, but what is the time limit for? [:)]

I've been getting the same thing for some months now.  Sometimes I can delete posts, sometimes I can't.

I think I remember others having this same issue.

I'd try to bring up some examples, but neither search function nor my posting history work correctly.

(If you happen to be working on the forum today[H].)

Thanks, -Steve

no idea.

The value is hardcoded to five minutes. Also, the time limit only applies to regular users.....ForumAdministrators, Moderators, System Administrators are all exempt from this.

OR..... its a bug, and the documentation was edited to make it a feature.

This "feature" is under Administration - Forums - Forum Post Settings. Go to the Editing tab and change "Edit Post Body Age Limit" (in minutes) to the length of time you want to allow members to edit their posts.

If you want them to edit indefinitely, enter "0".

Then Save.

OR..... I have once again opened a can of worms that I can not close. Does anyone really know how to get the worms back in the can?

Thanks dephcon --

Sounds to me like you're somewhat familiar with these boards... any chance you know how to fix the search?[:P]

 That's a can a worms I'd love to see opened.[G]

I didnt know the search was broken? Though to use them, it helps to be familar with SQL.

I dont fix things, I break em. Or, more accurately, I break into them. I was just trying to offer Chris any info that might help with answering Andy's (TWINSET) question. Im not an admin on these boards, just a member who happens to be a geek.

Is the search broke?

What is it you are searching for?

It does 'lag' a little behind in terms of finding current stuff, but it should all be searchable in the end

I was aware of the setting for delaying deleting post, what I meant was I didn't know why the option was there in the first place. When I understand th reasoning behind it and the author things people will find it so generally useful that it defaults to 5 mins, I'll look at changing it

Cheers

Chris

I dunno - maybe it's just me, but I can hardly find anything in here.

I did a search for 'TB01 pinion'  and got a lot of unrelated results.

Maybe you could explain to me exactly how this search engine works so I don't have to guess.

Or perhaps a sticky somewhere?

Thanks,

There is a real good post on search criteria somewhere, but I can't find it at the mo [:|]

Anyway, to search for two 'words' like that, use AND between them - must be uppercase to work.

Basically, it finds all posts that only have both words.

If you omit AND it will find all posts with one or both words - so all the posts containing pinion will show up whether they contain tb01 or not.

So, try tb01 AND pinion

If you want to narrow it to where the phrase tb01 pinion is used, search for "tb01 pinion"  using the " "

not sure about the TC search but as a general rule for 2 words would would but them in speech marks.

"TB01 Pinion"

EDIT  - TWINSET you beat me to it

So what you're saying is that the search works? [:P]

 Thanks Twinset,

I tried the techniques you outlined above and it seems to work for me. Just seems awfully complicated to not have a sticky for it somewhere.
