New reason to start a "Baja" Class ! (Now Ordered !)

Recommended Posts

It's not too far off now- looks like it will be a rocket too.  Possibly considered a new version of the Tamiya Chevy S-10/Ford F150/Toyota Pre Runner.  I know some info is in the forum's but I couldn't find it. And I looked ! All the goods here:

 http://www.thundertechracing.com/desertracer.htm

I know it is not tamiya, but surely it could be considered a "high tech" version of the old TA01/TA02 Chasis they used for the "Stadium" class truck !  Thoughts ?

Anyhow, let's generate some discussion:

Interesting. The bodyshell doesn't look good, but the chasis looks like alot of fun to build.

What is the that long wide black strip above the esc?

I think the black strip above the ESC is the RX antenna (wrapped around something and heatshrinked?).

This chassis looks very similar to a project someone posted a lnk to recently, making a baja truck out of a 1/8th rallycross car (using the Kyosho 1/8th Ford F150 Landmax shell).

I do like the look of this model, but it could do with a better body.

Spektrum shouldn't need such a long aerial wire, should it?

Aside from the body, it's perfect; way better than the TA-02 trophy

trucks. Roll cage, solid axle in the rear, independant in the front; it

looks like it drove right out of the Baja 1000 which, by the way, I was

excited to see was shown on national tv last Sunday (yes[H]!!!) Looks

fast too!

I like it, but the price of a F350 for a 2WD Baja chassis is imho too high so I doubt enough pieces will be sold to make a widely spread new Baja class [:(]

That looks absolutely lovely [H]

I actually like the shell -

looks like a real off-road fibreglass shell, which is what it's based

on, after all...  And for those that don't like it, I imagine

pretty much any 200mm truck shell should fit over the chassis with no

real problems...

Like the chassis here too, but if it had the schlesser

body it would be fantasic!!!!!! One thing about chassis though, with

all those screws holding it together looks like a real pain to swap

stuff out, and it looks like they could eventually shake loose[:o]

I doubt that this is the body that they will use (but your never know)..... what is pictured is the old Team Associated Ford Stadium Truck RC10 conversion body. Associated discontinued that body long ago (I would love to find one). But hey, if for some reason, they offer it on the truck, I would be happy. Maybe they bought the mold from Associated or Associated is contracted to reproduce it.

I think the shell suits the car, Not like a clk gtr with smooth lines and all but arrgessive and angular as it should be.

As for the chassis - WOOO if only it was 4wd I would have it instantly. I love my 250mm wide pajero as you get scale looks and performance and this looks even better with the chassis also scale.

So where can I get one???

Best regards ryck

this looks very good. Bit heavy I think. But with that weight it should drive realistic.

One part of me says it´s fake and other part loves it!!!

The rims and wheels looks very Ford F350!!!
And as JAnderson says: "The rear-end is Tamiya XC"
If not fake I love the chassie!!!

It's an idea, but...

  • XC rearend seems a little weak, not suited to hard and fast running.
  • Overly complex chassis.
  • Only 2WD for the price? Production version had better have 3 speeds then.
  • The 4-link looks nice but I am not digging on the shock location and the alloy arms.
  • I do like the body, but something about the truck seems out of scale... I can't quite place it.

For the price I just don't think it is worth it. No doubt it will perform well but I would sooner build my own.

Oh - it's real !  http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=227462

I don't know how it will handle - but I really haven't "bashed" a XC Axle either.  Judging by all the XC's out there it should be okay though !

This coupled with a Lipo & Brushless set-up would be a sight to see I think.  The price of $350 may seem steep but it is for a complete chassis that will probably be in a limited run.

Personally - I like the "exotic" touch thundertech has done to the chassis.  If you look at my txt-1 "Ripper" Chassis you can see they have a "groove" for this type of thing:

I too like it. Kind of reminds me of the CORR racing trucks except I think some of them are 4wd.  If enough people buy it, would be a hoot to watch race around a real off road track, not some track that's been raked and potted with clay for smoothness. Those tracks suck and not too sure how they can be considered off road.

Yeah reminds me of CORR and the pro truck thats in the dakar each year with Eric Vigaro (apologies if that is spelt wrong)

I agree some of these so called "off road" tracks look pathetic. And whilst the kinda thing u need for scale rally driving a semi smooth base surface I think that for the more dakar style then the roughness isnt that important. I love my pajero dakar and how I run that because I can go fast with the dark impact chassis but I also need to slow down in the tighter areas and when the bumps are large so that I dnt crash and burn lol.

Does anyone know if there could be a 4wd version some time soon??

Cheers Ryck

  • Only 2WD for the price?

Don't look at the price of RC bikes then, they're only 1WD and cost a fortune  - Not sure how the amount of driven wheels affects the price really though, as a TL-01 doesn't cost anything like as much as a TRF501X [;)]

Personally, I'd buy one over the High Lift any day [Y]
