What cars do you all drive?

Thanks, I hope it does. I like to spend more time maintaining cars than shopping about. Is your 16 Regal a sedan or that station wagon?

I agree, I tend to keep cars for a very long time.  The 16 is a sedan, GS model.  I don't believe the station wagons were available until 2018.  My wife drives the 16 and we've been thinking about replacing it with one of those wagons, but they're priced a bit high still due to them being pretty hard to find.

Everyone should own a proper Mini at some point in their lives!! 😀

Had a few (still got 2, '81 1275GT and a '69 998), with the last one I sold, being a mini city, but with a built 1293 (large valve head, 286 cam, gearbox rebuilt with centre oil pick up and X pin diff), metro turbo brakes etc etc. The thing was awesome.

I would love (and keep looking for....) a Honda vtec powered clubman, to scratch the high reving speed itch..

100% agree, it's cliché to say - but nothing drives like a mini, go karts for the road.  My family has had a fleet of them in the past, including an Austin Mini Van that my Dad used for his plumbing work - he wished he kept that also!

That 1293 City sounds potent!  As for the VTEC limiter bashing, have a look at Z-Cars (I'm sure you possibly already have though!) They have K20 kits, fun times.

Doing motorway speeds in a mini feels so so much faster ,than sat in ,say,  a new Jag ,(or any new car tbh). No power steering, no power brakes (you where posh if you had discs!🤣), just bare knuckle , seat of the pants driving quick, absolute bliss.

One of the cars I should have kept, would stay with an XR3i upto 115mph ( on a private road 🙄..., it just plain ran out of revs) , although ,it was eating gearboxes every couple of months, but a £50 a pop, and a few hours to swap out, was cheaper than getting a straight cut..

Found a pic!

2023-02-15_05-26-38

I bought a rust free decent shell (had front end damage), with the plan of a Vauxhall C20Xe engined mini, swapping the good parts off the City and parting it out, but ,I was at the age ,where short skirts took my interest more (not me wearing them...😏).

Ended up selling the lot, (the City seemingly went club rallying), as I got a good deal on a 1.9 GTI. That was another car I shouldn't have sold, although, I'd probably have no licence, in prison, or worse ,if I'd kept it tbh...(the guy I sold it to, kart wheeled it across a field, not long after I sold it to him, so its bean tins now....🤦‍♂️

Even my relatively modern (in terms of Mini talk!) '95 Cooper SPI felt like this just around residential streets hah.  My other car at the time, was a Mk2 Mondeo 1.8, and switching to that after a day in the Mini felt like a big wofty land barge in comparison!

Your City looked and sounded awesome, bet it was a great laugh - bonus points for sitting on Wellers!

Red top swap would have been dangerously fun.  Just noticed you're in Scotland - was gonna say, Brooklands have a mini day coming up next month, it's always worth a visit and dangerous on the wallet if any are for sale :D

I used to do the ,Stoneleigh show. In fact most of the goodies came from there! Pistons &rings, cam , rear alloy drums etc. Save the pennies, then go down and haggle 😀

Big 1:1 car fan here, but old skool.  Has to be naturally aspirated and have a manual gearbox.  Currently enjoying this on both road and track:

Wow, beautiful car @Twinfan!

I too am a MT guy, but open to new ideas and one of my whips is a mildly modified B58 450hp/500lbft+ GR Supra with a ZF8.

I'm out of attachment memory so can't post larger pictures or a picture of the engine bay with the Eventuri CF stuff..

Thought I'd bump this one up as a newbie with a few 1:1 projects.  My current fleet:

1966 Mustang.  Owned since 1998 and currently undergoing a very slow transformation into a trans-am racer tribute (it's been off the road for 10 years since detonating the the last engine..).  Stroker race engine being put together as we speak, and will be running FiTech fuel injection but all hidden as everything must be in keeping with the sixties racer theme.  Same with the five speed manual box conversion.  Also got aluminium caliper disc brake conversion, locking diff, etc waiting to go in..

26610709128_1fe935372e_h.jpg

Next is my 1962 Chevy C20 Fleetside.  It's an original California black plate truck, now sitting on a 77 Blazer chassis so benefits from better suspension, 350/350 V8 auto, power vented disc brakes, power steering, etc.  Imported by me 10 years ago, I'm just refreshing the engine before it heads off for some fabrication work in the new year, including a healthy drop!

32073245418_00fa3e4f2a_b.jpg

I bought my 1987 205 GTI four years ago now, and luckily just before the prices went nutty.  It was a track car bought from a friend, but given its relative rarity (it's one of the earliest known 1.9s in the country) I refreshed it back to a more original looking exterior and a 'sympathetically' stripped interior.  Various engine mods including a worked head and twin 45 Webers pushes the power up to 166bhp, and loads of other mods including shorter final drive for sprinting, full suspension upgrades, electric power steering from a Saxo with Xsara quick rack, etc, etc, etc.  I use it mostly for fun road use and compete in autosolos too - came second in class this year which I was chuffed with.

36217169444_2baee60c57_b.jpg

And finally, my latest purchase which is in a box over the Atlantic somewhere!  A 1974 Ford Econoline E100 V8 shorty with automatic transmission and power brakes, so quite a rare combo.  Despite appearances it's absolutely rock solid and has had only two owners and shows <30k miles.  Hopefully something I'll be able to jump in and drive whilst I finish the others!  Due from LA into Felixstowe at Christmas - can't wait !!

Well the Mustang and the truck are now sold, but not before I finished the truck which ended up looking like this:

Mustang was sold in bits.  But, van had bit of a makeover this past year.  Interior revamp underway but exterior now looking much better; chrome grille, NOS mirrors, sidepipes, slot mags, original paint cut and polished, etc:

Also it was my birthday this week so treated myself to this, the UK's oldest Mk1, left in a barn in 1982 with one owner and less then 17k miles.

Always wanted a modified preflow in this colour, but haven't found one in years of looking so thought I'd enjoy this in the meantime.  Bought it off the guy who had it nut and bolt restored underneath, but kept the patina outside (including ageing any fresh paint) and the original interior just got a clean.

Well after having my 2019 Volvo V60 for 18 months I got a bit bored and it wasn't really 'ME' tbh. So this week I got back into another hot hatch and picked up a 2020 Renault Megane R.S. 280 😁. Impressed by it doesn't even come close. 👍

Bought this today. MX5 ND 1.5 sport nav in Silver, even though it looks white!!! Technically there is no standard silver colour available for this model year but if I enter the reg number into a paint supplier it comes up with plain old silver. No fancy names. Picking it up next week and I will check out the paint code on the vin plate and see what it says?

Ha, thanks, I am tempted by some bubble windows, but originals are a fortune nowadays and I'm just not sure I could handle the stress of cutting into that original body..

Ooh, that's my reading sorted for tonight :D

A couple of weeks back i bought an 06 Opel Corsa C, its relatively well preserved for its age, no specific reason for picking it other than i could get to it and drop my ford there, it doesnt require another inspection for about a year which was the main issue with the Ford.

No idea how it actually did pass its inspection a month or so before i bought it as the rear bushing on right control arm was completely shrecked, the metal ring surrounding the bushing was rusted into several pieces and the only rubber remaining was the ball around the central metal bit so it would dive to the left when braking, easy enough fix tho, just removing three bolts to drop the control arm and smacking a new 8 buck bushing in.

This is the lightest car ive owned and even with its 1.2 motor i find it to be feel quite snappy.

Previous cars have been a Golf Synchro, then a Saab 9000, then a Ford Focus.

I do still miss the golf, especially the "4wd" for winter conditions but it was getting too patchwork, same things happened to the other cars as well, im no more than a tinkerer and paying for repairs gets too expensive when considering the value of the vehicles.

@GTodd My 1:1 cars.. these were bought new at the time..  I use to work on cars a lot more, but these days I ache all over so mostly only do maintenance and very minor mods.  Nothing spectacular, no car loans, 3 cars in my 900+ sq ft finished garage, 2 parked on my large driveway since they are driven a lot for daily tasks and frequently dirty anyways.

2016 WRX STI base with full options, modified.

2017 Golf-R full option, modified.

2019 WRX Limited, full option, modified. (this car looks like my STI, but different turbo engine, cable shifter, e-power steering, suspension, etc).

2020 GR Supra Premium (B58 I6 engine) full option, modified.

2020 Forester Limited full option for hauling stuff.. totally stock except for WeatherTech liners.

Last year my BMW S1000RR Sport was written off, courtesy of another rider riding beyond their capability.

So, in readiness for this summer, a week ago I picked up a 2023 S1000RR Sport.
