Today i had build up enough trust to finally apply those horrible 959 red and gold stripe decals. I have done three before but never manage to get it right. I have used all of the techniques i have learn here at TC. You know..the soapy water, move in place, press a cloth to get the bubbles out and finally the hairdryer to get the decal around the diffucult corners. BUT......today the decal is finally in it's place without any bubbles or wrinkels and 10 minutes later...plop plop plop plop plop. There all back [8o|]

Is this deu to the quality of the older decals or am i from a kind of breed who never get this things right [:S]

I have recently applied the decals from the Taisan Porsche. Also difficult corners and bends, but with the hairdryer all went well and there isn't any bubble or wrinkle that returned. I have done many bodies in my life and never had any problems except for the 959.

What is the key to my problem. Should i get myself a reproduction decal set for the red and gold stipe decal????? The reproduction ones are printed on the modern type of vinyl so maby they can be applied much easier?????

Thanks

Problem might be that old decals loose their glueing strength and thus come up on curvy sections, a solution then could be to back them with new thin double sided adhesive foil?

If keeping those stickers stuck down *forever* is your goal, applying a little superglue using the pointy end of a dressmakers pin to any corners/edges that lift up usually works.

Maybe you should try polish the body with a non-greasy polisher.

Be carefull as the body will become very static(lly) and attracts dust, hairs and other stuff.

You don't want them trapped under the decals(waterslides) or stickers(vinyl).

That's why there are special fluids to apply waterslide decals on matt surfaces like static military models (Micro Scale Industries: Micro Set and Micro Sol).

Decals just love a smooth surface...and stick to it...as in "stickers"...

I do have bought the repro decals from Jay and just applied them on my original 959 body. These repro decals are great!!! No problems at all with bubbles or wrinkles. The quality and flexibility is very good to get the curves right. Only thing to watch out for is to not stretch them to much! If you don't look out for that the "striping" decal can become 1 cm longer. Another handy thing is that de strpies are divided into two separate stripes. A red one and a gold one. It's much easier to apply this way and the fact the decals are pre cutted along the edges only makes things easier.

Thanks a lot Jay for the repro's!! I can advise them to you all.

Thanks for the complements Mr.Nismo. If anyone wants a set, I only have one left (honestly) and I don't know if I will get any more done, as they are very expensive to get printed.

Post some pics when you get it done. I have yet to see one with the repos, even my own is not done yet.

Thanks again!

The total for one set shipped worldwide will be $40.98. The price has been the same since I got the first set printed. If you do a search in the forum you should easily be able to find the original thread. Payment of your choice or I can send you a paypal request.
Thank you for your interest and please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great day!

Sweet! Very nice. That is the first time I have seen my own decals on a body (sad, I know).

The last set is now gone (Thanks Adam, they will go out today). That will probably be it, unless there is some renewed interest in 959s. If anyone else needs any, let me know and I will see what I can do.

Also, I should mention that I am working on more that should be available in about two weeks. I think this will be one that everyone will be interested in.

Thanks again gents! Hope you guys have a great New Year!
