Hi

Ive just bought my first RC car ever, still in pieces building it slowly though lol.

Just a couple of questions really, wondering if you could help me out:

1. I got a TB-02 chassis, with no engine but rest of kit with it. Just need to know what else i need to buy? Servo,Radio Gear,Batteries,ESC? and where i can get them online within the UK?

2. What engine would you guys say is use? since i aint got a stock one?

Thanks for advice in advance :)

hi Tiesto an welcome to tamiyaclub

try fusion hobbys and ebay for the radio gear. a set of bearings if the TB-02 hasnt got them this will make the car more free rolling. look on ebay for a cheap silvercan motor this is a standard motor that comes with all kits. esc's start from about £30+ futaba 330 cr is a good make and will allow u to use a 13t motor also has a revers and brake. as u say u have brought your first rc car so i would say stick with a low turn motor, low speed crashes do less damage than high speed crashes . batterys... hmmm i would a a 2000 pack and delta peak charger hope this helps

TB-02 comes with bearings, oil shocks, full turnbuckles and dual ball diffs. I think Virus means you need a high turn motor, the lower the turn, the more the RPMs the faster you go. I would advise a silver can 540 if you haven't done RC before as this will be plenty to learn on. If you've got some experience, try a 27 turn stock such as the Trinity Revenge of the Monster. The Futaba ESC is a popular choice but also consider the MTroniks RV15 at £43 and LRP AI at £45 which have 15 and 11 turn limits respectively. While I would not advise anything this quick to start off with, you'll probably want a real quick motor at some point so buy the best ESC you can. As for radio, normal Acoms would do you which is about £40 for a full set which gives you all radio you need although you will have a servo spare. I would go for at least a 3000mah battery, preferably made by GP which will cost around £24. 3000s are avaliable cheaper, but they tend to be a bit poo. For a charger, I would get a peak detecting one such as the Ripmax Propeak at £29.99. This will allow you to use the mains and a 12v battery to power it and will take about 40 minutes to charge a 3000mah pack.

Hope this helps!

Techniplus radios are fine basic units, but if you plan on running more than a few models from one handset, I'd recommend the Futaba 40meg stick radio (can't remember the model number, but it's 40meg AM and has 10 memories for different car settings). Costs about £60-£70.

BAH!!! You'll probably get bored quickly with a 27T motor, as I did with my TB-02. My suggestion is to get a 14t-17tx3 or x4 motor because a 14-17tx2 has too much torque and anytime you blip the throttle a little bit, it always spins out of control.

Right now I'm running a Duratrax 8T Reversing ESC (GREAT BUY at $70US) from Tower and a Venom Fireball 17tX2 (way too much torque, courrently looking for a 14tx4). I also use 3000mah Epic Sport battery packs (Again a great buy at $18.99US from Tower).

Hope that helps!! Have fun with the car!

Sounds like one should blame driver skill rather than the car. [;)]

Try running your rear diff looser than your front. (Looser but not loose enough for the balls to slip on the rings.)

Good tyres help too.

My TB02 is setup exactly the same as the other EvoIIIs and its handling & response to suspension tweaks is identical, a very good chassis indeed.

If you intend to be putting 'hot' motors into your TB02, it might be an idea to get the alloy motor mount heatsink. The motor doesn't get much airflow where it's stuck.

Willychang, my driving skills aren't the best but they're not that bad either. I have great new V-tread grippy tires. The problem lies in a couple of things: 1. I drive it on my culdesac, which is blacktop and does have some loose gravel here and there. If I were at a carpeted track or one that was tarmac then I probably wouldn't have that problem. 2. The 17X2 motor that I have is just waaaaaay too torquey, the 27T experienced no such throttle induced spinouts.

If you're referring to Proline V-rages, umm they're not all that flash. Put them on a gas car and it kept wanting to swap ends too - could be it.

Have got a 17t in my TB02 for "drift duty", it works great.

The TBe3s run brushless so that's even more torque from that. My lightweight dogbones are coming back "twisted". [:0]

Hi and Welcome to TC

Try an Mtroniks ESC (www.mtroniks.co.uk) they are 100% waterproof and if you are getting a "silver can" motor they are perfect. They are only £20

First off Welcome to Tamiyaclub

i see you've been sorted here & theres so much stuff u can buy

Heres my bit on this

1st this is your RC Car ever (was i the only one to spot this [:0] not aimed at you Tiesto i mean the others)

for your first car you want to keep it kit standard to get the feel of the car unless Ballbearings are not kit standerd then i'd say buy them before building the kit

get use to driving the car before putting a fast motor in like Willy said

most people with there first car keep it as that there first car and get board if it and sell them a few months later not getting anywhere near the money back they've spent [:(]

i've bought a few cars off people that claim them to be there first

so before you run out spending loads of money...

i guess the car came with a MSC = Manual Speed Controler

i know an ESC = Electroinc Speed Controler is a lot easier to set up and use but do you need one just yet?

i got a new Radio set on 27MHz for £35 i know some places do them for £29.99 and others up to £60 depends where you go

so my advice is to get use to the car you could get use to it fast and upgrade or it might take a while to get use to everyone's diffrent nothing to get [:I] about it's better than taking the wrong advice hopping up your first car and being back on here a few hours/days later asking where to find parts and how much you need to spend as you've smashed/broken your car it's no fun breaking any car let alone your first

i think this had to be said and hope others agree

yeah, HPI "Super" compound is pretty hard & lasts a long time but gives very little grip; they're not much better than the tamiya kit tyres.

Might want to try some stickier rubber if you're looking for handling. Newer compounds give good grip and last a fair while.

Hey WillyChang, can you recommend some good stickers for me then? Not overly expensive and will hook-up good on blacktop that will have some loose gravel on it here and there.
