im looking into the possiblilty of changing my car motor and esc's to brushless systems, can anyone recommend a starter set to trial before i take the plunge. next i drive on the beach when i can, how well sealed are the brushless motors, dont laugh but was also woundering about my cars ability to handle the power i have a baja champ, grasshopper 2 and a touareg, is there a truck puller type brushless system not wanting much speed but good torque and maintence free. im guessing the grasshopper 2 would be difficult to keep in a straight line with the extra power but has oil shock front and rear and would be fun. cheapest brussless combo i found is on modelsport link below.

any help or advice would be very useful.

Starter set? Brushless is a sizable investment no matter which system you buy. It is not a bad plunge to take though!

Brushless motors are usually completely sealed. I would not immerse them in water for a long time but they keep water and grit out well.

The Baja Champ will take brushless power with no problems. I don't think there is any motor in existence that can blow up TL-01 gears.

The Grasshopper might take it okay, keep in mind that the gearbox was made with a stock 540 in mind though!  I would proceed with caution on that one.

The Touareg? No. It might take the power, but you don't want an XC to go fast. They don't like it and they don't handle well. There is no need to make a Touareg go that fast anyways.

As for systems: You mentioned a Truck Puller type system, I assume you are referring to the LRP Truck Puller motor as a guide. There is one system that slow, if you are rock crawling with a Touareg, and that would be the Novak Crawler Brushless system. In my opinion, more money than it is worth. Not a system for speed bashing with your other cars either, and it is (like all Novak systems) very expensive.

For cost effectiveness I would recommend the Castle Creations Mamba Max 1/10 systems. I got mine for under $200 (with motor and ESC). They are new, fully programmable by computer, and I have one too so I can say it works well. The ESCs are all the same, and the motors are available as 4600, 5700, and 7700kv spec. KV is how many motor RPMs per volt put in. If you want the most power and efficiency you could buy the 4600 system and later buy the 7700 motor when you want the extra speed. Very high quality units at a great price, cheaper and faster than the Mtroniks you posted a link to.
