Guys - I got my TA01 barings through but the smaller barings that should be 850's have too small an internal diameter to fit the gearbox shafts through them [:S] .

How does the numbering work on these barings?

If I can prove they sent the wrong size barings then I can send them back

Cheers in advance

1150 bearing means the outer diameter is 11 millimeter and the inner diameter is 5 millimeter

850: outer diameter 8 m, inner diameter 5 mm

1 mm  = 0.039 inch

superb info there miga - I never knew that,

What about the depth of the bearing would that make 1150 + Z value for depth i.e. 30 for 3mm?

yes the depth is the last number eg 1155 means 11 outer 5 inner 5 deep.

don't know why but with the Tamiya bearings and naming convention the depth is not declared anyway.

if you buy single bearings in some other store, you must always declare the depth of your bearing, too.

cheers

Thanks Michael - perfect info. I've written back to them to ask them to exchange them. I've used For Big Boys on e-bay many times with no problems, so hopefully it's just an oversight that they'll sort out. On measuring they've actually sent me 840 bearings based on the naming convention above (internal diameter is 4mm)

 Thanks again

The letter designations used with bearings refer to the materials used. These are some of the ones that a bearing shop gave me.

  • Z - Steel
  • R - Nitrile Rubber (Acrylonitrile butadiene rubber)
  • D - Carboxylated Nitrile Rubber
  • P - Polyacrylate Nitrile Rubber
  • S - Silicone Rubber
  • V - Fluoro Rubber
  • T - Teflon (Polytetrafluoroethylene)
  • L - Leather
  • F - Felt

Different manufacturers and suppliers use different cominations of letters to designate if they are refering to to the seals or balls.  Usually if only one or two letters are used they refer to the seals.
