I'm not completely sure how many people are still around when this started, the idea was all the members chipped in what they could and together we'd build a Sand Scorcher! After lots of original interest and donation the project then settled down to a long term thing, obviously a lot of the parts are hard to come by and people quite rightly don't want to give them away when they do get them. We'll after about 5 years and a lot of unbelievable generosity from our members I can now report that we are coming to the end of this project and along the way it has turned into something truely special and unique to Tamiyaclub.com.

Just look at these pictures and then I'll tell you the plans...

Got you breath back yet? Basically this is fitted with some of the best homemade parts from our members and period hop-ups too. And every single metal piece has been plated in either Gold, or something even more expensive ([:S] name escapes me for the moment, all done by pleiku68  even the wheels and bumpers which were already shiney solid aluminium to start with!

Also not pictured is a new unpainted body set and new decals - which we are still looking for a painter for. We are also looking for a painter for the white letters on our tires too. Because of the fragile nature I'm looking for someone in the UK, who ideally can pick up and has a track record in perfect Sand Scrocher paint jobs. Tires can go to the best person in the world - based on examples of your work.

Now the original idea behind the car was to raise some funds to the running costs of the club, by either auctioning it or selling tickets etc, but fortunately the club is now financially stable so we can make grander plans for it. Giving it away in a competition is a nice idea but it would be sould destroying to then see it turn up on ebay the next day and someone making a huge profit out of other members hard work and kind donations. So heres the plan.

I'm planning a trip to Japan later this year (my daughters been learning Japanese for a while now and I promised her if she did well I'd take her [;)] ) As I'm going to be there I thought I'd take this model all properly mounted and with an official list of all the members that contributed to it on some fancy certificate and give it to Mr Tamiya himself for the official Tamiya showroom. I've made some head way on this and my suggestion is going to be formally discussed at Tamiya HQ in Feburary! Although my visit dates are going to dependent on this meeting I'm very much pushing for it to coincide with the next big Shizuko fair or even the Tamiya World Cup. (If anyone wants to meet me there just send me an email and I'll keep you up to date with the arrangements)

From a Tamiya collectors point of view I can't think of anything better than to know a model I had contributed to was sitting in Tamiya HQs very own showroom, but I appreciate others may have other ideas and it was not the original plan to which they contributed, which is why I am offering any parts back to those that have contributed but don't feel this is a fitting end for the model. No problem and no hard feelings - just email me and let me know.

Thats the update for now - more later.

Regards

Chris

Oh! [:$] MR TAMIYA!?

A very kind gesture from anyone who contributed to it! And an even kinder gesture for giving it to Shunsaku Tamiya! I wonder if TC would get a mention on Tamiya.com?

Amazing! and what a fitting tribute to the peaple who contributed to this project, to be given enough appreciation by Tamiya to show this in there already incredable showroom. I wish I had given somthing for this car just so I could say I had a part of it's creation. [Y]

Can I suggest...

Body be painted NOT in boxart colours, but someting to reflect the work & contributions of the contributors.

First & foremost would have to be the TC logo prominently painted on shell.

That is well and truly stunning!  I would love a Sand Scorcher, one day, I will have one, its my destiny! LOL!

I hope to go to Japan this year (Hopefully Apil?), however my other half isnt happy about my desire to go to the Tamiya HQ, or for that matter my idea to run off and join the Sumo whilst there! LOL!  Think I will take a huge empty suitcase with me to fit a few kits in. ;-)

You will have to keep us posted about when you are going as I would love to see it there when I visit or meet up.

That buggy came out way sweet.  Jerry did an awesome job on all the plating which makes my donation of the aluminum front and rear cage look piddily.  I can't wait to see it sitting proudly in the Tamiya Museum.

Hey Chris,  I have a contact down here who's painting me a Mu and Pajero shell atm.  I'll look at his work when I get the stuff. He just might be the painter we need for the shell and maybe the tires.  How hard is it to do the tires? I've never tried to do those.

That is an awesome project. It really would a be great recognition for the club and the skilled members who contributed to have it displayed in Tamiya HQ.

Well all i can say is WOWW!!!!!! I'm just in awe at the quality of workmanship the members of this club has!! A truely stunning example of what can be achieved. I can't think of a better place for it to be seen by all those who love the Tamiya badge.

Unfortunatly i was not around when this started out, but i'm sure as badword i'm glad to see the final product [Y]

A massive congratulations and thank you to all those who contributed to this awsome buggy Chris & co, you must be so proud to have created a forum which has, to my mind, brought so much joy, expertise, quality, and above all fun to so many!! This alone is worth the £15 subscripion fee.

Wow, That is stunning. It is definately something the contributors should be proud of. Is it completely ready to go after that or are there still some parts to go on?.

I think willychang is right about how the body should represent the club, As to what design though, you could have a small competition for best design maybe, The prize being the person getting the honour of the design going onto the shell? You should see if club member 'moosey' would paint it. From what i've seen of his cars the are very well painted plus it looks like he can do white wall lettering aswell!!! Just a suggestion

Oh one last thing, But this scorcher should be perfect, I hate to nitpick but the rear left tyre is mounted backwards!

I agree with mymonsterbeetleisbroken, the VSRB should have its own page with description, contributors list and lots of photos, QTVRs and anything else that will help to show of its beauty.

Well done to all those who contributed, it looks amazing!
