Ordered my Grasshopper Combo pack last night from Fusion Hobbies.

I am going to blow I am so excited.

I chose it for several reasons:

It would be ideal to have for my sons.

A good buggy to start off the hobby.

The Grasshopper looks great and brings back loads of memories.

I wanted to have a 'perfect car', where I am not constantly looking on eBay, I want to get it, build it and it to be complete. I still have 2 other cars to restore yet, so they can be done next.

Anyway, Im blabbing on, Im excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The grasshopper is a great little runner, you'll love it!

Very

basic and simple in the suspension department, but more than made up

for by being small, lightweight and nimble.  Above all, it looks

great - has a real scale look that is sadly missing from the modern

Tamiya buggies...

I ran a grasshopper for years during my teens -

it was a half-dead wreck when I got it, all I did was fit a new battery

and servo and away I went...  Took me several years of hard

driving before I managed to destroy it, too [:D

You cant beat the look of the old cars.I rang my LHS to see if they had them in and they said they didnt do sell much in the way of cars anymore, they mainly focus on trains!!!Now, I am certain that if Tamiya started making the new cars like the old ones model shops would do a far better trade.

The best first Tamiya IMHO. Runs like a rocket with a 540 in it. Always fun to run and built like a tank.

If you can find some vintage hop-ups for it, all the better.

Have fun with your build.

Thanks, I will!!!I will probably leave this one original and have a second to attach all the hop ups to and maybe some custom additions.

I checked your showroom and saw that you already have the ski conversion kit which will fit the GrassHopper. That is a very rare hop-up and in mint condition no less. Great find.

Ah, but....That was put there when I was a full member, which I am not now and the Ski Conversion Kit was sold on eBay about a year ago :(Along with a Sand Scorcher project of mine which had a CRP SRB chassis, CRP BNIB Bumper, MIP Gearbox, MIP Rear Trailing Arms and CVD Driveshafts and some very nice HPI Super Star Wheels.I also won an eBay auction for RCH Front Shock Towers and Front Suspension Arms but they never arrived and the seller never gave me any compensation, that was a very painful RC financial blow!

Say it ain's so! [:o] I hope you will be able to recover some of your vintage items over time. Sounds like you had some really great stuff. I hate hearing stories about great vintage cars / parts that were given up, and knowing that you lost money on an Ebay deal is even worse.

I may be able to help with some vintage/period GrassHopper hop-ups. I have many items that are not listed in my showroom.

No, but WHO CARES?

You've got an NIB Grasshopper - why are you on here worrying about an

internerd forum post when you've got one of Tamiya's best budget

buggies waiting to be built..?

I just read another post of yours and see you want a Grasshopper. In reality, that new Grasshopper is the total of my collection. And the reason why I wasnt building the car is because I felt it safer to wait until my 3 year old and 1 year old were in bed. I did my chores and started building around 9pm and had the car built by 10:45pm, just got to paint the little bits, apply stickers and fit radio gear.First upgrade will either be a 540 motor or a charger that charges in less time than 15 hours, but it was part of the combo deal.

good choice, just purchased and built one myself- was a bit disappointed with poor speed on the kit supplied 380 motor, but a 540 with proper 18T pinion sorted that out and now ...wwwhhhooosshhh, ok, not that fast, but great fun. dont seem to be many hop ups for the grasshopper though, not meant to be improved much i suppose, the hornet type motor/ oil shocks/ lighter body are a possibility, but then you end up with a hornet, not a grasshopper!...think I'm gonna leave mine alone and enjoy it as it is (with 540 of course), got too many other over modified toys to work on.

hope you enjoy yours!

 That's right [:D]

I

was given a 2nd hand one when I was about 14.  It had no motor, a

broken steering servo, dodgy speed controller, no driver or headlights,

completely bald rear tyres and damaged wheels, and was generally a bit

bashed.  I fitted a spare 540 and ran it for a few years until a

big impact with a curb launched it into the air and totalled the

chassis.

I bought a new chassis last year, but when I priced up

for a full rebuild (even using re-re parts) I realised it would cost

more than a re-re kit.  I've now consigned it to the shelf in a

pile of dusty pieces, I doubt it'll ever run again...  Will just

get a re-re when funds allow, I think [:)] because it really is such a

fun car to play with.
