This topic has been covered many times, but the short answer is....

Nitro fuel.

Easy Off oven cleaner

DOT3 brake fluid.

Depends on the paint type so your results will vary. I have best luck using oven cleaner on enamel and brake fluid on laquer.

None of the above is harmful to hard shell tamiya plastic.

I just used Mr. muscle oven cleaner on a fully painted yellow enamel polycarbonate shell, i thought i knew better and decided spray enamel would be fine on a well prepared lexan shell- oh dear!- started chipping off after the first 10 minutes on the road.

Anyway, Mr.Muscle works well, but try about 4 applications of about 30 minutes each time, rinsing and scuffing at the paint with a green scourer in between each application of oven cleaner. Mine was all done after 5 cycles- its a long winded task, but hey, shouldn't have used enamel anyway- lesson learned!- now off to but lexan paint!!

Hi there

I find that the fairy power spray works better than the mr muscle. Spray on leave for 30-60 mins and scrub off with a nail brush or old toothbrush and cold water. Do not leave on over night as it seems to eat in to the plastic,  (although it has happened to me once and it might have been the primer that was used originally I cant be sure ) I still wont leave on over night just to be sure

Hope this helps Tony

My first experience was to use mineral turpentine on an old Frog drivers head. Sorry dude - I melted your head!

Recently I was masking one of the acetal? Tamiya driver parts recently and my liquid masking ripped some of the paint off. I used Tamiya fine primer, but it doesn't help TS paint grip this very slippery plastic. So I used Easy off and after about 5 applications (10 minutes at a time) and lots of scrubbing with a oothbrush it came off. Easy off is a base, so left on long enough it will dissolve the plastic. But if used over a 5-30 minute span it won't attack Tamiya ABS plastic.
