Good question.

If truth be know what I've done with this build is follow web standard much closer than the previous one. Idea is you follow the standards and it works on everything. Ironically enough the opposite seems to be true particularly in the mobile market. That said if on your mobile you see and can access all the links, all be it in a very textual manner ,and can navigate around the site than the argument is its worked. ie for those browsers which don't adhere to strict CSS guidelines it falls back 'gracefully' to a text based equivalent. (one that looks nothing like the real site)

In the old days I just used to code dodgy Internet Explorer specific html and it seemed to work and give people a more enjoyable experience for the majority of mobile users. Progress eh? Seriously though, the code should be more complient with future phone browsers so rather than me updating the site I think its a case of the browser software on phones will probably be updating shortly

Or are you saying you just don't see anything?

I can access it to a degree from my K800i - Works great for adding comments, but even at 50% zoom (out) the screen's not really big enough for much else [:(]

One wierd thing is that it doesn't recognise the SIG banners as 'clickable'

I've tried this before and just gave up waiting for it to load[:(] Plus it cost me a fortune

Yup, it's not cheap - I get past my 4mb free within a couple of days of the start of the billing period.

Thankfully don't have to use it very often.

Wireless on the PSP is cool though, can surf in the tub now [8-|]

I'm all for messing with gadgets but the one site suits all is just not going to work.

So how about this - we decide amongst us which bits you'd really want to be able to see and do on the site from your mobile and I'll set up some pages expeciallyl for the small screen (main site - not forums, thats too big a job at the moment)

Which bits are sooooo urgent you can't wait until you get home for? Showroom entries, may be trades? Try to be selective, I know it would be nice for the whole thing to work but its not going to anytime soon.

Funny how technology makes all this stuff 'must have' innit;

"Why would you want to send text messages on a phone?"

"Why do you need a camera on a phone?"

"I don't need it to play music, I have a walkman"

I don't actually know half of what my phone can do any more, but it has Tetris [Y]

I'm still waiting for that Nokia with the freeview tuner and HDD video recorder [8-|]

Well I use a PDA when in the car and I go on TC I think the pages I would want would be:

Trades

Movies  - not suited for phones as it would cost a lot but with wifi it is free (I use the PDA in trains and WiFi is free)

Showroom main page

Chat room would be nice but there is never anyone there anyway!

To an extent - just www.tamiyaclub.com results in a screen full of plain text, but if you type in the string from your showroom frontpage, you get something that vaguely resembles TC, with clickable bits.

Funnily enough, the SIG bars aren't clickable here either!

haven't checked my pda yet.

Hi Chris,

 Thanks for the reply.

Yeah all I’m getting is text with the odd link within it here and there that

took me to more text.  I tried it on both my K750i (on O2) and K800i (on 3) (Im just changing network), on K750i it wouldnt load at all, but then again its on O2, so is a bit tempremental when browsing.

It’s handy to have the site mobile just for the

trades section mainly, saves missing anything good that pops up ;-) LOL!  I was

even checking it in the Apple store in New York last October every other day

(its not as sad it sounds, my other half wanted to go in as was indecisive

whether to get an I-book or not, so I just set myself up on the net! LOL!), oh

and checking up on my Halloween comp entry! LOL!  I kept leaving the page

up, just in case anyone would pop a vote on, didn’t work! LOL!

I will give it a go on the PSP when I get it next weekend (very excited about

that).

Cheers,

Andy

I also recommend trying Opera Mini, it means you can see just about every web page with your phone. It shrinks the page down on Operas server before sending the smaller version to your phone so it saves loads of bandwidth. If your phones can run java apps just browse to http://operamini.com from your phone to download it. Tamiyaclub works (mainly) for me in Opera Mini but I always get a 413 error using the browser in my V3x.
