dumb question, but is it possible to race those 3 speed semis?  I was thinking of getting the mercedes 3 speeder the white one and trying to make a speed demon out of it....think its possible I mean it would be cool.

First I doubt you would find anyone to race against. It's possible to race anything if you can get someone to race against.

Second, how would you feel seeing the truck roll over on a corner or hitting a barrier on a race track?

If you want a proper race truck there is the Thunder Tiger MAN Racing Truck

I have raced a semi against touring cars, it was with a standard motor and it was a little too slow altho I was running the areomax which handles well. It was a good laugh especially in the final when i ran it with the box trailer for a few laps, (a mini did get lost trying to overtake me on the far straight not being able to see her car)

I do have a Merc truck and was going to race it, however its weight distribution is terrible and it can lock up under breaking as its too front heavy which makes it very sensitive on the stearing. I have tryed a convertions with the truck taking the gearbox out and making a new transmittion, it is a lot more ballanced but only limited to success, due to the heavy truck and a high gear ratio it has no brakes.

Anyone want to race a truck in the south east and I would be up for it

If you wish to drive it like that it has to be the Merc 1858 with the metal box rather than the 1838 just the cab front. The box on the back of the 1858 helps its weight distribution so it can be driven around for fun,

Ps Threadlock everything if your gonna drive it like that off road, I wanna go around that track now [:P]

Racing a Tamiya 1:14 rig would be like racing a caravan LOL, better get the trucks recommended above, or some lexan truck shells for 1:10 tourers, I think Carson used to make some.

Cheers

If only you were around here in england for a race. Please dont try to change gears while using a brushless system, It may end up with a mess in the gearbox.

Your idea makes me think of a video where somone crashed a F350 into concrete with a Novak 4.5R brushless in it. (it was painfull to watch)

Awesome video, I'd love to see some truck racing just like they had in the 80's. It was all about the stats on those things with 1000's of horsepower and big drifts in the corners.

There was a link to it on here several months ago, Im affraid i dont know were it is or I would watch it again. It only broke a few parts tho.

If you were in england I would me mad enough to give you a truck race, Novak 4.5R in a ford areomax would be my wepon of choice, (I have not tryed brushless in the truck yet tho)

I don't know about 'racing' a semi for reasons already pointed out... but one fun contest to have with people that also have the trucks is set the trucks a distance apart from the trailers and see how fast one can get their truck to the trailer, mount the trailer, lift the legs (assuming motorized legs are installed which makes it more fun), then take it to another spot and lower the legs, unhitch the trailer and drive off back to where you started. Sounds simple, but you need a little practice in to line the truck up and setting the trims on the remote to do the legs and to drive off etc.. you can make it more difficult by having part of the game be to honk the horn after you load and unload (since you have to use the same trim channel to switch between legs and horn on the remote). You can also add turning on and off the lights to this as well. It gets a little crazy the more things you have to do.

Right ON! Those truck races were soooo cool. [Y]

Of course stock trucks aren't much good for racing, they are meant to have a trailer behind them usually and the gearing is low. But often on trial trucks and racing trucks they would be modified with a sort of box on the back. I don't know what exactly what was in it, if anything at all (probably weights), but they looked cool.

If using Tamiya trucks, I would guess there would need to be some modifications (body mods, weights, suspension?) but there is no reason that on-road EP truck racing wouldn't work. Off-road doesn't seem very realistic though. The video was funny but I just don't see it starting a new fad. [;)]

I wonder then if a high lift tranny can go into the the semi trucks arent they the same just different ratios?

No, they are different. However I am sure the semi gearbox can use different pinions. Increase the gearing a bit and run 19s, they'd be quick enough. [:)]
