I couldn't wait to build this. My most enjoyable build so far, mainly because I scrounged all the bits seperately over a month, till I had them all in a big pile looking at me. It cost a fair bit, but meh.....its only money, innit?

This build didn't follow any instruction manual order, I only followed the Egress manual for the gearboxes, then followed the Carbon chassis manual, the sheet with the Hi caps, and the ballrace steering instructions, so its in a bit of a jumbled order compared to the Egress instructions.

A massive thanks to Antony (Europro) Myles (Vintageavante) Bob Price from Modelbuild, and Victor101's RC car shop on Ebay. Without you all I'd be a lot richer!![:P]

Anyway....lets shaddup and build this thing, eh?

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007112843_1.jpg

This, as you may have guessed, is a pic of nearly all the bits used for the build, minus a few odd screws that I had to scrounge from my other kit leftovers.

First up, the front diff, from the ball diff and torque splitter set. Parts used:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007112843_2.jpg

First step complete.

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007112843_3.jpg

Next the middle gear and balls in the diff:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007112843_4.jpg

Gear in place ready to bolt together:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007112843_5.jpg

First diff finished. These are a very nice little piece of engineering!!

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007112843_6.jpg

Now we'll do the rear diff:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007113313_1.jpg

Ready for middle gear.....

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007113313_2.jpg

The two diffs done.

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007113313_3.jpg

Now we'll start on the rear gearbox:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007113313_4.jpg

Case together:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007113313_5.jpg

Case and the bits to fill it:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007113313_6.jpg

Shafts and bearings in and on:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007114007_1.jpg

In the case they go.....

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007114007_2.jpg

.....and we screw the lid shut!

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007114007_3.jpg

Next, the front case. Bits for the first step:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007114007_4.jpg

First step done:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007114007_5.jpg

Second step bits:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007114007_6.jpg

Second step done.

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007114438_1.jpg

Now lets fill it with gears:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007114438_2.jpg

Gears in, lid threatening to go on:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007114438_3.jpg

Ah!! Here's the lid, and some other stuff:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007114438_4.jpg

Front arm front mount together, along with a very nice alloy body mount!!

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007114438_5.jpg

And the front gearbox is complete!

Fantastic build thread Corpse Thrower. Its awesome to read and follow a build of a car that I don't know anything about. It looks like a serious bit of racing machinery. The rear suspension is interesting too and is slightly reminiscent to me at least of the Losi JRX2 5 link suspension, with this Tamiya version modified to 3 links.

Anyway I look forward to the conclusion to this thread. Oh great pics too btw.

Cheers

Top stuff mate what a machne think i will have to keep my eyes open for a runner egress as i would love to give one of these a go.

Top stuff!  Awesome build.  That pile of parts made me drool[:P].  The Avante and Egress are simply beautiful pieces of machinery.

An excellent guide, reminds me of when i built my Egress some 16 years ago, and then when I rebuilt it last year after finding it in my parents garage.

You didn't include the pictures of dismantling the front uprights and rebuilding them the right way roundemotion-5.gif

Awww......you've just wrecked the competition that I was going to run......

"Guess what I did wrong. Winner gets this chassis"[:P]

You shoulda waited mate.........

OK, now for some shocks!!

The Hi cap short set used on the rear of this car:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007122210_6.jpg

Now ready for oil:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007122627_1.jpg

Shocks ready for mounting:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007122627_3.jpg

I had to remove the wing stay to fit longer screws, supplied with the Hi cap set:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007122627_2.jpg

And they're on:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007122627_4.jpg

Hi Cap Mini set, the fibreglass shock mount is supplied with these:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007122627_5.jpg

Ready for oil, you don't get any oil with the Hi caps, so I used oil from my Dynastorm kit:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007122627_6.jpg

Front shocks ready for mounting:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007123040_1.jpg

First the shock mount goes on:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007123040_2.jpg

....and we're done!!

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007123040_3.jpg

Beau....

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007123040_4.jpg

....ti.....

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007123040_5.jpg

.....ful !!!

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007123040_6.jpg

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007123454_1.jpg

I'll mount my new Vanquish wheels and tyres till I get some black Egress wheels and hybrid spikes:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007123454_2.jpg

Tyres on the rims:

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007123454_3.jpg

And that is the end of the build. Tyres on, and its finished!!

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007123454_4.jpg

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007123454_5.jpg

http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img14438_15012007123454_6.jpg

There you go!!

I hope you all liked what you saw. More pics in my showroom. This thread should give you a bit of an insight on what its like to build one of these spactacular cars....I certainly enjoyed the build, anyway!!

Now for the Vanquish!!

Very nice build mate, done a couple of them myself and i rate them highly except thos oh so breakable (as in nackered and break the bank) C parts!. TF Evo is also a nice build try one.

Well you just need to get some wheels, tyres and a bodyset and your done (and seeing as loads of the parts came from me i should give you a nudge and tell you i just listed most of what you need on ebay!. I will be listing body/wing/undercowl soon also!. Cheers

Don't ruin the chassis glueing the reinforcements. It's really not needed, believe me. I ran Vanquish with homemade carbon chassis, Avante 2001 and Egress and the parts were not glued. No problems found.

Cheers

Whack me an email mate, need wheels, a propshaft, and rear hybrid spikes. And a bodyset. I'll take the lot, might as well finish it, eh?

Great build and excellent photos!

This should be interesting.

James.

Differences found on Egress:

-sealed ball bearings throughout

-taller front shock tower

-front lower cantilever shock mounts

-front & rear gold springs

-turnbuckles on steering tie-rods

-titanium screws throughout

-aluminum nuts throughout

-black wheels

-hybrid spike tires

-no aluminum front body mount (for vanquish body-shell only)

-rear dog-bones (not universal shafts)

-no rear bumper on Egress (chassis under-tray rear-mount instead)

I think that's everything... :(
