Looks kinda cool,im guessing it was done years ago as NOBODY would do something like that to a Willy now. There was a time when the Willy was just a used RC car.And this is proof.

Thanks for posting its nice to see something different.

I see what your sayin' but in this cae there wasn't any modification that was done that couldn't be reversed so in that case I would do this just so I could play with it more without the solid wheelie stand all the time. AND the wheels and tires kinda give it a Hilux look with the Truck body on it.

From what I can tell it's just a couple aluminum plates that extend the stock chassis long enough to fit the body.

It does seem that a couple (up to 4) holes were added to mount the bottom aluminum plate to Willy's chassis.  You can see at least one of the existing servo tray mount holes in the top view photo- they could have at least made 2 mounting holes line up with the existing.  The rest looks like direct bolt-on without mods.  I am not one to criticize though- my Willy 1 has extra holes everywhere!!

I think it looks pretty nice and with the longer wheelbase I bet it rides better too-- the wheelies do get tiring after a while.  [:#]

I wanted to state the obvious before someone jumped on me.

Of course they had to use something to hold the front end together at the backside (either cut the front off a broken chassis or off an unused chassis - NOT acceptable today -- or they used a spare front bulkhead - costly today).  They may have shaved the bumper spring mounts off the bulkhead too (hard to tell in the pics)- another thing that would make most choke these days.

Just covering my a**,

Dont worry about covering your butt.I think its pretty cool,I just wanted to say nobody would do anything like this now.Thats good and bad, because we all know that if you have a WW1 its most likely on the shelf never to be run again.

Of course my cars are not perfect and thats good because i like to run my cars.

Its a shame because who ever buys this truck will most likely take it apart and make it a Willy and put it on the shelf.

Thanks again for posting the pictures,Its was a good idea back in the day but now Value for a willy is higher then the Value of ideas.

No one runs their Wild Willy anymore?  This one will be on the beach in the near future (after a teardown + rebuild).

These things were meant to be run!

PS- jwrape that is one cool old school conversion [Y]

who cares about the originality of a willy, it was meant to beat on :)

I say if you make something and run it, then that's a good thing. As long as your not setting it on fire your doing the right thing.  Kudos to you.

Yea, I had  Willy 1 once and loved it but it didn't make it from my childhood to my adult years except the rear axle and a partial chassis so I sold it off a few years back. I kinda want to have another one every now and then but if I did have another runner I would do the conversion above to make it unique and drive it. They are great runners. The trannies are tough and the weakest point is the Front A-Arms. I wrapped mine in Copper wire to strengthen them back in the day.
