Hello all, I was wondering if the esc tamiya now sells with its kits can withstand 7 elements? Of course, we're talking johnson/mabuchi 540's here (and their "sports tuned" counterpart)... Thanks!

 Cheers,

Paul

So that's where my thread went :) Makes sense after all

Thanks for your answer - I know the instructions say 7.2V, but... :)

Thanks all for your answers - I was hoping someone would say "I've tried it with 7 elements with a bone-stock 540 and it worked fine", but I guess it won't happen. I have a couple of these from a few recent Tam purchases, and I was thinking into dropping one of them in my Kyosho trail blaster (similar to boogie box), which can't handle to save its life, but goes hilariously wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeling when you give in volts!!!

I guess I'll have to find another low-cost speedo that can handle 7 elts. then...

Thanks,

Paul

Be reminded that the TEU101BK have no BEC circuitary.

This is IMHO, the main risk of connecting to 8.4V... as chances are your

receiver will be fried unless itself got BEC.

Oh come on! what kind of reciever doesn't have BEC?

I've tried 8.4V through a TEU101BK with a standard 27T motor, and it made little difference to a touring car, but maybe increased it's tourque - which makes sense.

The ESC was fine, but that was only after 15mins on one pack. It should be ok- but as I said; it makes little difference.

Old ones. Some people like their vintage radio systems.

Thanks for trying it out to see if it works, that is helpful to a lot of us [:)]

Also 4+ channel receivers usually don't have BEC.

Btw, most BECs are designed for 7.2V, so you might fry them or your receiver/servos if you put 8.4V to them. 8.4V was making sense only in the 80s when battery capacities where limited to 1200mAh, now its much better to use a hotter motor instead, that's why 8.4V for RC cars died very quickly.

Wow! This is an eye opener! I had no idea the TEU-101 was not suitable for 8.4 volts and consequently have used it plenty of times in my Hotshot with standard Mabuchi RS-540 motor installed.

Have to say I've had no problems at all, apart from from one time driving in the snow and the water seemed to fry the ESC...but even then a quick blast with the hairdryer sorted that out!

The 8.4V battery is a 3000mah too so not a weedy battery at all. Gives my 'Shot a nice little 'kick' around the track I must say!!!
