I was doing a little work for a client this week, when I spotted a bit of an opportunity for a spin off for the club [:)]

Heres a new bunch of PC screen savers for you. It goes without saying as with all things I gaurantee nothing, they work on my machine is all I can say. If you choose to install them and they don't work or your machine suddenly dies, your telephones stops working, your house is reposessed or your wife leaves you etc. then I am of course sorry about it but I can't help and you can't blame me.

I also would recommend these to anyone using dialup as they pull data in real time from the site. Not much and only once each time they kick in, so if you leave them running for hours you won't burn through all your bandwidth.

www.tamiyaclub.com/downloads/tamiyaclub_latest.zip (pull back and dislays the last 15 showroom entries made)

www.tamiyaclub.com/downloads/tamiyaclub_pod.zip (pull back and dislays a random 15 "Pick of the Days" each time it starts)

www.tamiyaclub.com/downloads/tamiyaclub_SRBs.zip (pull back and dislays a random 15 images from the SRB SIG group, each time it starts)

www.tamiyaclub.com/downloads/tamiyaclub_First50.zip (pull back and dislays a random 15 images from the 58001 - 58050 SIG group, each time it starts)

www.tamiyaclub.com/downloads/tamiyaclub_Crawlers.zip (pull back and dislays a random 15 images from the UK Crawlers SIG group, each time it starts)

www.tamiyaclub.com/downloads/tamiyaclub_BigRigs.zip (pull back and dislays a random 15 images from the Tamiya Trucks SIG group, each time it starts)

If they don't work, then please let me know - although that said I'm not sure I will be able to fix them for all machines.

Cheers

Chris

So I ma guessing it will display the latest showroom results than when the screen saver starts (I am referring to the 1st one)

Well I like the idea  COOL

If you just get a blank screen there are a couple of things it might be.

- either your connection is going real slow for some reason (leave it for a bit and let me know if it suddenly bursts into life.

- you have some firewall installed (software or hardware) which is stopping the screen saver accessing the web. In which case you have the option of allowing it on the understanding you know what you are doing (most firewalls allow you to specify which applications can access the web, so you should be able to just all this particular screen saver to do it stuff without running any higher risk) or forgetting about it and going and finding another screen saver that doesn't do any thing fancy like display live data from the web.

If you have these sort of issues then it would be interesting to see if you installed the SETI screen saver if that worked. I'm guessing it uses similar techniques so I'd expect that to display the same issues if you have them.

COOOOOOL!!!! Not an urgent request as I've always got a PC on somewhere, but wondered if a Mac OS X version would be an easy thing to do? My 'oh so pretty machine' gets all flustered with .exe extensions.

Hate to be the first to say it but it isn't quiet working for. I tried turning off the firewall block on the screen savers but when i run it, I just get black to grey fade from the top to the bottom of my screen[:(] Maybe i'll just have to go back to the good old matrix screen saver!

Think its just a question of something blocking its access to the web somewhere along the line, so far I've had two reports of it so far.

Unfortunately, there nothing in the code I can change to do anything about it. The others work because they don't access the web, its all local to the machine when they run. As I said earlier the only thing I can think of is looking for a setting on any firewall installed - that said its not worth going to a whole heap of effort over - better to stick with over cautious firewalls if you don't really know what you are doing with that sort of thing

 Cheers

These don't appear to work on my Vista machine.

The installer shows the preview and reports that the screen saver was installed successfully.

However, the screen saver is not selectable. I have checked Windows and System32 directories and can see nothing that looks like a screensaver. Not listed in Programs and Features either.

I posted this before actually trying it on my pc and it doesn't work on my XP Home either.

It says it is all installed but it is not on the list in the display properties..... It did work

My guess for the reason it's not working in Vista is that my user account doesn't have admin rights over System32 directory. Looks like there's nothing I can do about it either since it Home Premium and it won't let you use the MMC snap in to change group and user permissions :@

I am an admin on my PC also. I "think" permissions work a little differently on Vista machines than XP. I believe that by default, even an administrator does not have rights over certain areas of the filesystem. However, do not quote me on this as I am only a novice when it comes to Vista's "features".
