Hi all,

I found my old holiday buugy in my mothers loft when visiting on Xmas day, i thought about throwing it out but decided it might be worth trying to restore it, this is its story so far....

This is the mess it started in.

I started by ripping out the old radio gear and snapped front bumper as it was all well past its sell by date

I stripped the stickers off as they were looking tatty, the roll cage and canopy are missing.

Using a 1200 gram wet and dry sand paper i started preping the shell for painting, the shell has a couple of cracks, i tried to repare them but my lack of experiance meant i made a bit of a mess of it.

All primmed up and ready to go!

On goe the first few coats

This is the freshly painted shell after I re-painted the driver and cans, i'm quite pleased with it.

I set about cleaning up the chassis, in typical fashion the suspension mounting points are cracked so i'm going to get some lexan and cut a bar to fit across the front in order to mount shocks, i guess washers would do the job but it would look pretty messy.

I added a 540 motor mount, just need to drill an additional hole to finish fitting it and get hold of a pinion that will reach the gears as i can now only use 2 of the 3 original gogs.

A few of the new bits that i've been ordering to replace the knackered parts

37.jpg?t=1169318619

New rear wheels (not cheap) i think i managed to salvage the fronts, i've sanded, primmed and re-pained the hubs to match the cans on the shell.

Barring a few updated pictures that pretty much the story so far, if anyone has any advice on who, what and how i can sort the rall cage and canopy i'm all ears.

I'm also after a front bumper and suitable pinion gear for the 540 motor.

Thanks.

Hey this is great info, just what I'm looking for!

And the restoration looks great, well done.

Could you give some details on what paints you used ? Did you consider polishing the body? (I don't even know if it is possble...)

Anyone fond a Tamiya paint that matches the colour og the body's pastic ?

Thanks for any help,

Lars

I remember begging my mum & dad when I was a boy for one of these many moons ago, lol, it was in the "catalogue", you remember the one that your parents had. Anyway one day I too shall get one. I don't think that it's the prettiest of buggies, but it's different.

Thank you for the kind comments,

I used tamiya spray paint for the wheels, rear window grill, driver and cans and Honda metalic blue from Halfords for the body with a halfords primer clear halfords laquer.

Hi Dean, when i repaired one of my H/B shells , i used a section of a parts tree sprue and heated it and formed the bends to create the 'windsreen' section of the roll bar and attatched it to the body with ,(as i remember it ), Milliput. But i think an epoxy resin might suffice if the plastic is 'keyed up'.The Milliput is holding ok so far.I was luck enough to have had the remains of the 2 roof bars still attatched to the body so i was able to fit a roof to these and brace the 'windscreen' these could also be fabricated on your shell .It might have helped if the roll bar assembly had been done before you painted it all up ,as you dont really want to spoil any of that excellent paintwork you've done.As for the roof , this can obtained via TC or Ebay , or you could form one up with plastic card (which is in abundance at your stores) As Joel said , never throw anything Tamiya out without running it past one of us LOL [:D]

Hi Lars , i have tried polishing a H/B body , it does polish well , and i have also primed a shell using good old Halfords plastic primer / filler spray. I am also going to try a Peugeot blue Halfords colour as a finish , it seems to match well ,but i have not spayed it yet, so time will tell on that

I love your car, when i first decided to restore mine i spent loads of time looking at what everyone else had done and your stood out more than any other.....so i am indeed quilty of a little bit of copying [:D]

Hey deank93, great paint job!

Hmm, Halford's Honda metallic blue, eh? That's the sort of colour I was after for my soon-to-be-painted Bruiser, although I have some silver and clear blue to try for a deeper shine.
