Hi Guys

Sorry to be thick, but what motor can an MSC handle realistically without burning out the 3 step control or the resistor, which bit gives out first?

I realise ESC is the way to go and have several cars with ESCs, but cant afford all with ESC and want a bit extra from the MSC equipped cars.

thanks for any interest or replies

An MSC could literally handle any kind of motor, any number of them, as long as you run it at what and has plenty of cooling air (try a miniature fan) hiting the resistor.

The connectors will go out first, then the wires, and then the solder, and it's all heat related.

It's not just a question of how much the resistor can take - there's a limit on the amount of current the wiper arm contacts can take before things start to smoke. And this is long before the motor and battery connectors pack it in.

If you run the car at full throttle all the time, then the resistor is not going to be a problem at all since it only conducts current if you're at a lower speed.

I used to use a Technigold with a MSC in my Frog, and even that was capable of generating enough heat in the MSC to melt the centrepost wire off the bottom. I wouldn't use anything lower than 23 turns with an MSC if you expect it to be reliable.

Thanks for the advice guys, I wasn't going to go below a 23/25 turn so sound slike it should be OK as long as I dont do a lot of half-throttel driving.

thanks

It'll probably melt below a 27T, mine did with a 23T sport Tuned. You may as well get a half decent ESC for the money you're gonna end up wasting melting an MSC.

Look into MTroniks ESC's or a brand new TEU101BK for just 20 quid.
