TB01 all the way - Superbly strong chassis and masses of ground clearnace with the LA suspension set.

I have two - one in tarmac trim and one in full rally trim.

El Thoro,

You could go for a TL01B or  a TB01, if you wanted to stick to Tamiya. If you wanted to broaden your horizons, though, I would consider the HPI RS4 Rally or the Schumacher SST Rally. Both are developed from touring car chassis, but include the lexan dust shields necessary for offroad running. They both have heaps of performance upgrades as well. This is the Schuey... http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...864&sid=154

Then again, there's always the Kyosho Lazer buggy based rally cars..... http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...949&sid=154

As much as I love my tamiyas, I have an HPI RS4 rally (Lancer Evo). Fast as badword, indestructable (so far), runs great on gravel baseball diamonds, cinder horse track, and really short grass (golf course). Love the long powerslides with gravel shooting everywhere.

true but the words - Ugly and toy spring to mind.

Also I think that it lacks the strength of a TB01

 Ouch!

I haven't had a TB-01 so I don't know about its durability. I have had several TL-01s and they are near impossible to break. So easy to find parts for, heck you can buy a complete rolling chassis for $20. Lots of cheap hopups available too. The only issue I have had that relates to rally usage is that they like to get dirt inside the chassis, but it's not bad and all the moving parts are enclosed so you don't need to ever worry about damaging gears even with the body off. Also it's very easy to change the width and wheelbase of a TL-01 to fit any shell. Just overall a very reliable car and quite versatile.

The only time I ever broke a TL-01 was when at full speed (Reedy Quad Mag Spec 19, Speed Tuned gearset, FAST) and it caught a solid post with the rear right arm. Instantly stopped... The only damage was a broken chassis section. They are darn strong cars!

I didn't dare to mention it [;)].  Here's my RS4 Rally built to narrow specs to take Tamiya shells: gravel setup or tarmac setup
