Hi All,

I recently got hold of some Hitec servos.
Can
these servos be used with both Acoms & Futaba receivers ?
What Tamiya
servo horns do you use for Hitec servos, Futaba or Acoms ?
Also is it
possible to use Futaba servos with Acoms receivers and visa versa ?

Generally, all servos are compatible with all recievers. Hitec use their own specific horns so futaba and acoms ones won't work.

I have had good luck using sanwa/ acoms marked servo horns on my hitec servos, they come in 2 different sizes, the larger one fits with a little coaxing.

I asked the question because I'm intending to fit a Hitec servo in my
Clod.
It's already fitted with a acoms/sanwa horn so I was hoping to use this
horn as I don't have the futaba one.
The Clod was purchased from ebay so I
don't have any spares and looking at the design of the horn with those massive
ball joints, I could not make a suitable horn from the horn parts supplied with
the hitec servo, they are far too light weight.

Hitec, Futaba and Acoms all have a different number of splines on the horns and servo outputs hence the differing fitments. Whilst you may be able to get a Futaba or Acoms horn onto a Hitec servo, with such large loads put upon the servo from the tyres I would expect the horn to slip.

Hmmm probably best I scratch around in my parts bin for a Acoms servo then, I'm sure I'll have one.

So does that mean that these Hitec servos were probably not worth getting ?

In all my vintage models Tamiya only supplied an Acoms/Sanwa or Futaba horn.

Do modern models have Hitec horns supplied ?

Hitec do a good range of servos but you will need to buy aftermarket horns, Tamiya don't really cater for them.

mr_pushrod, what about Sanwa, are they the same amount of splines? I've just put together a T2R, used my Hitec servo with the Sanwa horn which seemed to fit, but everytime I hit the ropes, the steering went out of line so I assume the Sanwa arm in the kit isn't the correct fit. And what about the Spektrum servos, what servo arm would fit them?

Why do they make it so confusing, surely it would be easier if all the servo manufacturers used the same standard for the horn [*-)].

I think Sanwa is the same as Acoms while I know Hitec isn't the same as anyone else's. I'm not at all sure about spectrum though.

Thanks for the info mr_p - I've dug out the packet the Hitec servo came in, and cut one of the arms to size to fit in the T2R and it feels a lot more solid and tight on the servo splines - I'll find out Tuesday if it sorts the problem out..

Apparently there were som issues with Hitec and some company which is affiliated with Hitec. That company made copies of Tamiyas ordinary plastic kits or something. Tamiya "punished" Hitec by not supplying a correct part to fit on the servo horn. I´ve had problems with this since i have alot of Hitec servos. They do slip under a certain pressure and in an collision for example. I´ve switched to Futaba because of this.
