Hi all

Had that nasty feeling this evening where I just know that i'm about to have yet more money sucked from my bank account by that radio controlled hoover, sorry truck called the TXT-1. My latest idea is inspired by Neo's TXT in his showroom here

I love the idea of having a longer and wider TXT. Wider so it doesn't tip so easy at speed with 4WS and longer so it acts better as a crawler. What I'd like to know is a) has anybody reading this ever done this conversion? If so whats it like to run? and :D Where do I get the bits a pieces for doing this? I know axle wideners are easy to come by but I'm not so sure about all the extended chassis rods. I know Cal-tech doesn't make them anymore, does anybody know who else does?

Cheers

I wouldn't recommend using aluminum rod ends on a crawler, not even our own higher quality rod ends. Most that buy our alloy rod ends use them on show trucks or racers. Alloy rod ends:

(1) Do not give you the freedom of travel on the ball like heavy duty plastic ones do. That's bad news for a crawler.

(2) If the ball pops out the rod end is no good anymore - the balls will pop out all the easier after that, even on our alloy rod ends that can handle a lot of force (unlinke those cast ones) they would still need to be replaced since the ring holding the ball would most likely be damaged. I don't see a pressed ring on the cast ends BTMR shows so those are just trouble waiting to happen.

If you're going to upgrade the rod ends on a TXT used as a crawler, go with the Kyosho 6.8mm plastic rod ends. They have been the standard replacements to the stock ends.

Cheers for all the info folks. I still need to track down a source of longer chassis rods for the extended wheelbase idea, its a shame Cal-Tech doesn't make them anymore. If anybody has any ideas as to where to source any please get in contact.

My TXT project continues as my bank balance gets ever smaller. Next up are a set of axle wideners. Does anybody have a list of places that sell them? My problem is I don't want to go to wide if I can avoid it. I know RC4WD.com make one and half inch ones but they're a bit to wide. Alex at Inetrc.com used to make three quarter inch ones which would have been ideal but he no longer stocks them. Does anybody out there make axle wideners that are less than an inch? Or does anybody have used ones that they don't need that they want to sell?

Cheers
