Went to pick up my LB today to find that they didnt fix it! They told me that the ESC was broke and needed replacing!

Not being funny I told them thats what was wrong with it when I took it back!

But apparntly they not going to replace it as the motor is not the motor that was in the box and so Ive invalidated the warrenty?????

So If I add hopped up shocks? Ball Raced the Car? Put different wheels on the car? dose that also invalidate the warrenty also?

Now I said im not being funny, I have 14 RC cars at home and have had no problems with the ESC and non of them are running silver can motors.

Apparntly its a "Modifed" motor even though its a stock 27 turn can in it!

Now Im peethed, Cant use the LB and they wont change it. IT was faulty from the box, it wouldnt even set up (not even connected to a motor)

I got the UK Tamiya's address from them and was thinking of taking it back to them or putting the silver can back in and taking it to another modlezone!

That's so un-cool.

So I take it that ModelZone is a franchised (toy) store?

Do they even stock parts?

Because many of these stores usually don't stock a single spare part and tend to sell R/C kits as toys.

Not the serious hobby store kind of deal.

Yea A franchise!!

I got a 2nd new 101 too, thats also faulty! the reverse on it dosent work! the light comes on to go reverse, just no reverse!

And   ...wait for it,   if they get even a sniff of being wet they shut down completely and take several hours before magically working again.

It is one of very few Tamiya products that I think is completely rubbish. Not suited at all to r/c car use.

My advice is to forget it and buy a cheap branded esc, any other one is likely to be better.

Gee, guess I've been lucky with my 101.

Asked the store owner to take it out of a complete kit-box for the shelf price while he get a new one in.

If you've tried and the fresh 1 they sent you is also no good, then aftermarket it is.

i have a 101 in my crawler and it has been rained on, swimming, completely submerged under 3 feet of water and washed five times, but it still works a treat. If one item breaks, don't claim that the whole lot are faulty.

As for voiding warrenty, yes, if you change something stock on the car, then it voids the warrenty, read the card. If you buy a new 1:1 car and change the air filter to non-genuine, it can void the warrenty. Welcome to the real world. Companies have lost lots of money because of modifications made to products and false claims on warrenty. Also, I wouldnt expect the shop to do anything, deal directly with tamiya is the best idea.

I had a Canon camera that broke a week before the warrenty expired, but i couldn't take it to the shop until after the warrenty, the shop told me tough luck, we cant do anything, go to the maker.

OK, I understand that consumer law will be different in the UK (and other parts of the world) that what it is here in Australia where I am. My advice is to do a search through google for the consumer law for where you are, and read and learn your rights before you go to Tamiya.

What motor have you got fitted to the car??? Is it a 27 turn rebuildable stock, or just a case that youve fitted a Mabuchi instead of a Johnson or vice versa. The bottom line is here as far as Im concerned, even if you fitted a Sports tuned motor to the car, that should be OK, as it is an approved motor for that ESC.

Unfortunately, if you have fitted a 27 turn rebuildabe type stock motor to the car, then you probably cant say much, as its not an approved motor for that ESC.

Personally, I would not have taken the whole car back to be tested, just the ESC (after all, that's all that is faulty).

 Goodluck.....

Found out you can make the 101 forward only, so that one is now fixed! but saying that by putting a different motor in has invalidated the warrenty is stupid!!

This cars are designed to be upgraded etc. Just because I put in a rebuildable stock into it.

Thats like saying that Ive invalidated the warranty by not painting it the right colour, or putting bearings in it.

Or putting a new car stereo in my 1:1 invalidating the warranty if the engine then blows.

Yes changeing the motor is a big deal. If you use the Tamiya upgraded motor that they recommend then that does not void your warrenty. Tamiya only recommends motors that your speed control will survive with. Tamiya will tell you to upgrade your speed control if you go to a bigger/better/faster engine.

Putting bearings in you car is recommend  in your manual,But if you use some cheap bearings your gearbox freezes up you burn up your motor and melt your speed control than thats on you.

If you use the Tamiya bearings then you will not void anything.

On the note about car stereos some people have been known to do some bad wiring jobs and burn out thier whole wiring harness.Warrenty voided.

This is going to sound bad but its a good idea to ask questions here before you go to LHS unless they actually know something about RC cars.

They should have been able to tell you what was wrong in about 5 minutes. RC cars are not that hard to figure out.So i agree with your whole thumbs down to your Modelzone experince.sound like they just wasted your time.

umm i might be stating the obvious or something u already know but.................... wen i first used my new 101 i thought it wasnt working either but they must be calibrated exactly as in the instructions. reverse can be turned off as u already know but the first time u hit reverse it is an electrical brake for the motor the second time u hit reverse it will be reverse.

cheers

You live and learn!

My mates been running a 15t in his tt01 with the std eu101.  My point was that the motor did not blow the controller, as it did this out of the box with no motor connected, as per the set up instuctions. So hence the motor was not to blame!

but ooh umm

1. Yes you can. I've paired the 101 with an older yokomo 27T motor in my ff01, and after a single pack of borrowed 2400mah, surprisingly the 101 is cool to the touch, while the motor went too hot (I can barely touch the can without burning my finger).

2. that's open for discussion, but in general any 27T works ok. Just make sure you got the caps good, and replace the motor connector with something better -this may be the cause my motor positive wire went a bit hot on the connector (conector sleeve got burnt).

After having to set up a few TEU 101's I would agree they are not the easiest ESCs to setup correctly, and my first one nearly resulted in me sending it back thinking it was faulty!- you really have to second guess what the instructions are saying- not saying you didn't set yours up right, but I know i have had problems. when you compare to the likes of the budget Mtronics range of ESCs, which are 100% waterproof and easy to set up, the 101 doesnt get a good vote from me.
