I'm building my NIB Wild Dagger that stayed shrink wrapped for about, hmm... 10 minutes this morning. I brought it because I wanted an off-road truck with some speed, and moderate handling to bash around in lieu of running one of my shelf queen buggies. I live on 5 acres and have plenty of space for running off-road at high speed. I was going to but a XXX-T but my heart is with Tamiya, and moreso the ground clearance of the WD is best for terrain. I maybe should have gone for a Blackfoot Extreme, but it didn't end up that way.

So now with the WD build, I intend to chuck the friction shocks and fit my stock TXT-1 dampers. So I need some new shock towers.

W.r.t. electrics, if I go for 2 BZs, I'll need an Mtroniks RV max (no turn limit) - cheapest through RCMart. What pinion is best with these motors? 18 or 20T? With such a motor, would the speed significantly outweigh the handling capabilities of this chassis and hence be a silly thing to do? If so, would I be better to go for 2x Dirt Tuned 27T motors? I want a fair bit more speed than what I imagine the stock 540s deliver, but the whole package still needs to handle.

Also, does the motor timing need to neutral, as per the Clod?

Thanks, Mike

Power - That esc is rated at no limit but thats for one motor, if it blows mtroniks will not cover it as its not rated for 2 motors, something you need to look into. Saying that my other halfs (Mad Mini) Twin Det runs an mtroniks rv15 with two silver cans with no problem. So it may work just an idea to get you thinking.  What turns are those motors?? I run 2 19 turn motors and 2 esc's to save all the hassle (though means you have to run 2 battery packs too).  Oh and I would recommend 18 tooth pinions for faster motors although I would change pinions to steel items (aluminium ones you get with kit wear too quickly)

Handling - emaxx length shocks make a huge difference (as you said with a new shock tower, email tc member Twinset, he may still have some for sale)  The truck handles bumps and jumps tons better.

 Motor timing - Yes its the same as a Clod either both need to be set at neutral or the one running backwards needs to have timing retarded (effectively advancing it as its running bakwards)

I've cheated and not spent much money so far, and just dumped a pair of Sport Tuned motors in my Dagger with the MSC.

I'd say its a very sturdy reliable runner, but its proved to be not as quick as an equivalent motor'd 4wd buggy (e.g. Baja Champ/King or Gravel Hound with a single stock 540 or Sport Tuned motor). I'm a bit disappointed; I thought it should be almost as fast because its not a lot heavier.

I'd like to upgrade to a ESC becuase you have so much better throttle control. I'm thinking of a Mtroniks RV15 because Biggus is not the first person recommend that here for a twin 27 turn motors truck! I think they are about £50?

I've been running my txt-1 with a single Mtroniks RV11 with 2 stock silver cans - and had no problems with the esc at all. The esc has no idea you've attached 2 stock motors to it, it thinks you're running a single higher spec motor.

I've now also gone down the route of running duel escs. 2 RV11's and 2 Mtroniks 21 turn motors [:)]

£50 for an RV 15 sounds like LHS money to me. My RV11 cost just under £30 from ebay, but i've also bought an RV Max for the same price from a model shop in peterborough. Shop around and you should find a better deal than £50.

MSC's are fun to use if your on open ground and have the space to thrash the truck at maximum speed all the time. The biggest problem with them is the lack of a brake feature - with a 4wd truck an MSC's idea of breaks is to flip your truck onto its roof, or mash the gearbox as it slams it into reverse [:P]

I would say the RV Max, which does have a limit (an 8 turn limit though) would be ok with two 23 turn motors. The Twin Detonator isn't a heavy truck and the esc should be within its limits. Dont modify it or leave evidence that it was linked to twin motors for obvious reasons [6]

That is strange. Mtroniks reply emailed me about the RV Max, and even with twin motors, there is no limit to the number of turns. So 8 turns sounds new to me. Mtroniks stated twin 23 turn (BZs) motors in a TXT-1 would be fine. I read between the lines, in that thermal overload protection will cut out the ESC before it smokes. Which kinda renders the ESC ineffective don't you think, aka brushless. RCMart sell the RV Max for US$61, the RV11 US$51. Pretty cheap IMO.

Another option for ESC and motors is either the EMaxx system, but you'll need to batteries for this set up, but you do have loads of power. The other option is to fit the cheaper EZilla/ESavage system, the bonus with this route is that you can fit the ESC first, 2 motors 7.2v, the ESC will work 7.2v, and then at a later date fit a pair of 14.4v motors.

To be honest though, unless you go for REALLY big power, you'll never get big speed. For more info try looking on "www.rcdaggerweb.com"

When I got my Twin Det it just came with the stock motors which were so so poor!  So as I am very much against MSC's I wanted to get a nice ESC in it.  At the time I couldnt afford to get a twin motor ESC, so I found this on tamiyaclub;

 http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...93&sid=2920

and gave it a try.  I had just bought an Mtoniks Tempo 11, so my RV15 was kinda going spare so I used that and it worked very well.  I ran it with a Tamiya Super Stock TZ in the back (I love this motor) and a 21T Fireball in the front and I was impressed.  I checked it quite a lot during running and I had no overheating, no decrease in battery life and a good speed.  However it isnt enough.  I am now looking at beefing up the Twin Det, so I have invested in a Novak EVX and two 600 motors;

http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/item...VDC_MOTOR_.html I have only tested it a little at present as I need a new chassis so I can hold the twin batteries. But I did have a go with Zipping the batteries etc on the original chassis and running it in the back street and at first appearances, I have a pretty good system! He He!  Main problem however was the rims spinning in the tyres.  So my next job is new chassis that I am designing, fit the HPI arms I have bought and get some nice rims and tyres, oh and some decent suspension.  Im just chipping away at it at the moment.  Cant wait to get it done though. LOL.

 Have fun with your Twin Det!
