I just build my re re Grasshopper with full ball bearings and Super Stock TZ (assembeled with 18 T Hornet pinion gear). It turned out to be very fast!

Then the two problems:

1. The ESC is making a beep when I use the speed throttle. The connection from my transmitter (Futaba Megatech 2PL) seems to work excellent. The response is perfect. Is this beep normal??

2. I tightened the grub screw with a matching hex wrench, but after some running the grub screw loosend and the pinion gear fell off. Am I doing something wrong??

Desperate for guidance!! I really want to run my hopper again soon!

1. Is it a 'beep' or a hum?  The 101BK is awful noisy especially at low speeds.  Mine make a high pitched hum that increases as slow throttle is applied.  Is it a constant, over-and-over 'beep' or a steady growing hum?

2. Are you sure that the grub screw is hitting on the 'flat' of the motor shaft?  If there is no flat spot, then make one with a file for the grub screw to set on.

Good luck, Jeff

If there is a fault with the teu101-bk esc, like radio signal loss, it will bleep about 2 bleeps per second.

ie: bleep... bleep... bleep [;)]

If its a constant high pitched kind of buzzing sound - its actually the motor. It buzzes due to the electronics switching rapidly inside the esc. At full speed, you shouldnt be able to hear much at all though.

The grub screw comming undone is fairly normal for new builds. Just tighten it right up again and it should be fine.

For tightening the grub screw, make sure the grub is exactly square

on the flat.  I start by tightening it up until it rocks on the

flat, i.e. will turn so far then stop.  Then gradually tighten it

up until it no longer rocks, then give it a nice tight twist to finish

it off. Not so tight as to bend the hex key (or strip the

thread) but tight enough that it won't come undone.

It might sound like a constant high pitched kind of buzzing sound, but I can't hear it when the speed increases. After holding the car up to my ears it seems more likely that the sound comes from the motor. Hard to say if I should call it a beep or a high pitched hum though. I guess I'll settle with this beeing a harmless, bit annoying sound..

I followed your instructions for the grub screw and tightened it real good, so I hope it will stay on this time.

Thanks a lot for your replies!

Agree with mymonsterbeetle, they are noisy at low motor spped, as he says its the ESC restricting the curret to the motor ad you get that weird squeel- but totally normal. This sound is different to the bleep-bleep which is the ESC telling you you didnt turn the controller on first!!- as it does not have a steady signal comig ito it.
