I was pretty disapointed after seeing this new so-called Avante re-release. Compared to its pedessors this new Avante lacks originality and style. I was going to get one but now I am pretty sure I will pass and just get a High-Lift instead.

I think it looks very ugly, how that spoiler is fitted. And the shape of the body. It actually has nothing to do with avante... At first I thought it was a nice car, but now with this new picture from Tamiya, it looks very ugly.

thank you guys i thought i'd lost my mind for a moment! [:S]

i also agree this ' avante ' is awful!

the body just looks weird and if the yellow wheels are supposed to take us back to the original avante then i'm amazed.

i suppose someone will buy it for the name but personally i think the keen hawk looks better or the DI for that matter.

i take it the chassis is still the same?  come on mr tamiya sort it out!!

just my opinion

cheers devilsome [H]

I think the only people that will by it for the name is anyone that has no idea of what the original Avante is ( or even the 2001 Avante ) . And the more I look at the pictures of it , how is the rear wing suppose to do anything other than provide a place to put stickers on ? The rear shock tower completely covers and stands well above the wing effectively making it nothing more than just added weight with no beneficial effects .

The wing placement is exactly the same as on the Dark Impact, and I can assure you that running with no wing stuffs things up nicely, So it is there for more then just added weight to put stickers on.

 That aside.

The new Avante is craptastic, Its ugly as sin, and in no way does it recall the original kit, The wheels are worse then a joke, more an insult. Whoever is behind this has stuffed up.

I could swallow it if they had whacked some bling wheels and paint job on the TRF501, But to whack an ugly body on a chassis that has already made a name for itself (DF03) is a joke.

hmmm...Upon further inspection I can see what you meant by the wing, I must have been blinded by the sheer ugly of the thing, and the tacky factor.

Ive seen a lot of original avante fans say they hate it, its ugly, a slur on the name but i suspect a lot will buy one if only to have the complete avante family and it should also send avante prices high as mk2 owners clammer for the earlier versions or even give younger owners who only know the mk2 a reason to visit here for a look around at tamiya history, at least it kind of makes the df-03 interesting. So well done tamiya from me.

As I've mentioned in the other thread, the mk.2 body is an adaptation of the mk.2 body tamiya did for their mini 4WD series (those 1/32 scale slot cars)... Tamiya also did a Manta Ray Mk.2 for the mini 4WD, and if you ask me, it looks worse than this avante... Let's hope they're not stretching it to fit the DF03.

At least the Mk.2 Avante looks better in its'mini 4WD format (I bought 1 for fun)...

IMO, at least the body will be easier to trim for beginners than the keen hawk.
